It's finally happening! Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis has confirmed that she's set to star in Murder, She Wrote revival—and yes, she's officially on the case. After months of speculation, Curtis told Entertainment Tonight,
"Oh, it's… happening. We're a minute away, but yeah, [I'm] very excited. Very excited. But I'm tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I'll get to enjoy that work."
The revival, backed by Universal Studios and produced by Lord Miller and Amy Pascal, will be a feature film—not a series. It will be written by Dumb Money writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. While Curtis did not reveal the production timelines, she confirmed the project is next on her list after her current projects wrap up. Apart from Freakier Friday, some of Curtis' upcoming projects include Ella McCay, Sender, Scarpetta, and The Lost Bus.
What role will Jamie Lee Curtis play in the revival of Murder, She Wrote?
Jamie Lee Curtis isn't just stepping into a role—she's stepping into a legacy.
In the upcoming Murder, She Wrote revival, Jamie Lee Curtis will play Jessica Fletcher, a name long associated with the late legendary actor Angela Lansbury. Lansbury portrayed Fletcher in the classic crime drama series Murder, She Wrote, which ran for twelve seasons (from 1984 to 1996). But for the upcoming revival, don't expect a carbon copy. This is the new era, and Curtis is shaping Fletcher for a modern world with a new twist.
Angela Lansbury's Jessica Fletcher is a TV legend—a retired schoolteacher turned crime novelist who used her intellect and quick thinking to solve several crimes in the isolated town of Cabot Cove, Maine. Think polite gasps, poisoned pies, and small-town secrets.
But Curtis's Jessica Fletcher is rumored to break out of the quaint mold. Expect grit. Expect movement. And maybe a murder or two outside the quaint town of Cabot Cove.
With cozy crime shows like Only Murders in the Building and The Afterparty booming again and with Curtis on board, Murder, She Wrote could become the next must-watch.
There's no official word yet on the release date, but we might see the series airing by 2026 or 2027. Casting announcements and production details are expected to roll out in the upcoming months.
The new Fletcher may still be writing books—but now she's writing her own rules. And with Curtis at the helm, Murder, She Wrote is gearing up to be more than just a reboot. It's a reinvention. One built for headlines and a generation raised on true crimes and twist endings.
