Jason Isaacs has revealed the salary of The White Lotus Season 3 cast (& it’s way lower than we thought)

Considering the scale and success of The White Lotus Season 3, fans thought the cast would have been paid exorbitant salaries, especially veteran actors like Jason Isaacs, Walton Goggins, and Parker Posey. However, the reality was starkly different.

Jason Isaacs has talked in detail about the HBO show’s cast’s salaries in a recent interview with Vulture and revealed that all the main cast members were paid only $40,000 per episode, taking home $320,000 for the eight-episode season.

The amount is considerably less when compared to other HBO hits like Game of Thrones, where the main actors reportedly earned around half a million dollars per episode for the final season. Similarly, the Friends cast made a million dollars each every episode in the later seasons of the NBC sitcom.

Jason Isaacs reveals that The White Lotus Season 3 cast was paid $40,000 per episode

During the interview, Jason Isaacs agreed that his The White Lotus Season 3 salary was very low when compared to the remuneration of actors of other major network shows. However, he added that he has no qualms about it as he would have done the show even for free, as he was eager to be a part of it:

“Generally, actors don’t talk about pay in public because it’s ridiculously disproportionate to what we do — putting on makeup and funny voices — and just upsets the public. But compared to what people normally get paid for big television shows, that’s a very low price. But the fact is, we would have paid to be in it. We probably would have given a body part.”

Isaacs further revealed that all the main cast members were paid equally on the show, irrespective of their stature or experience in the industry. Hence, veterans like him and relative newcomers like Sam Nivola were all paid $40k for every episode. Isaacs added that he had no issue with being paid equally as the younger actors, as he does not work for money:

“Do I mind that I wasn’t paid more than other people? I never work for money. I’ve done all right. People will think I have huge stockpiles of money, but sadly, what I’ve done rather immaturely is expand my outgoings to match my incomings and pretty much spent everything I’ve earned over the years.”

While the salaries sound pretty low, they make sense as The White Lotus Season 3 featured a huge ensemble, and paying everyone a massive amount of money would not have been possible. Producer David Bernad earlier talked about the equal pay for cast in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter and said:

“Everyone is treated the same on ‘The White Lotus.’ They get paid the same, and we do alphabetical billing, so you’re getting people who want to do the project for the right reasons, not to quote ‘The Bachelor.’ It’s a system we developed in the first season because there was no money to make the show.”
