Jeremy Renner could be back for Season 2 of Hawkeye, new reports have suggested. Since the initial season of Hawkeye premiered on Disney+ in late 2021, there has been plenty of buzz surrounding a sequel. Renner, who has a starring role as Clint Barton, initially refused to return for a second season because of a pay dispute.

He claimed to have been asked for half his salary for doing more work, which he felt was unacceptable. Despite this, new industry gossip indicates that Marvel is currently discussing the return of the actor. Renner has publicly professed his love for the character and has not completely excluded a comeback.

The prospect of his return has encouraged fans to become more interested in the direction of the future of the series, despite the report that the show will continue with Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop taking center stage if Renner fails to return. The news has left fans anticipating confirmation from the producers regarding the cast and direction of Hawkeye Season 2.

Jeremy Renner's negotiations and comments

Jeremy Renner has spoken candidly about his negotiations for Hawkeye Season 2. He had said that he was offered half of what he got paid during the first season, even though there was a lot more work and they were asking him to commit for longer. Renner called the offer "insulting" and went on to add that it was not an offer made by Marvel Studios but by Disney accountants.

He said on the High Performance podcast that he said "go fly a kite" to them and declined the offer. Renner also said that his choice was guided by his healing after a bad snowplow accident in 2023, which impacted his physical capability to act in strenuous roles.

Despite these problems, Renner has consistently expressed that he enjoys playing the character of Clint Barton and would be willing to return on improved terms.

Rumors and potential storylines

Industry sources such as Daniel Richtman have indicated that Marvel is still negotiating with Renner to return for Season 2. Renner himself confirmed in interviews that there have been discussions about the direction of the show, and he has no issue with returning if the circumstances are favorable.

There have also been whispers of potential storylines, such as one surrounding the life of Clint Barton's brother and taking its cues from action movies. Though Renner did not validate any particular plot points, he did admit that "everybody is interested in it" and there are "a lot of ideas" still in the mix.

But if Renner is not going back, according to reports, the show may revive with Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop as the central character, extending her introduction as Barton's successor in Season 1.

The future of Hawkeye Season 2

There has been no official confirmation on the cast and release date for Hawkeye Season 2. However, there have been reports that Marvel Studios is considering several alternatives. If Renner does return, he would doubtless be sharing the limelight with Steinfeld, whose character was cemented as part of the series in the first season.

Without Renner's return, the show could then fully commit to Kate Bishop and her coming-of-age as the new Hawkeye. Marvel Studios has not released any information on the plot, cast, or production schedule. Fans are holding out for an official announcement, but the backroom negotiations and rumors so far hint at leaving Hawkeye's future wide open, with Renner's inclusion still a possibility.
