John Cena has never been shy about his loyalty to James Gunn — and now, with Superman making waves across the globe, the Peacemaker star is speaking out about how the film’s success might shape the anti-hero’s second season.

In an interview promoting his surprise cameo in Superman, Cena made it clear that when Gunn calls, he answers — no questions asked.

“The cameo came about because he asked me, and he could ask me to go to the ends of the Earth and if I could do it, then I'll do it,” Cena said. “He's one of the people on a short list, which I admire and respect and really do as much as I can for them. He's changed my life completely, as I stand here in [the Peacemaker costume].”

It’s not just about the costume, though. For Cena, the bigger win is seeing audiences embrace Gunn’s new direction for the DC Universe. And if Superman is the litmus test, then Season 2 could be in for a serious upgrade.

“It’s an installment in something larger”

John Cena believes the response to Superman proves there’s genuine interest in the new DCU.

“I think to have audiences around the world, embrace James' vision of Superman, which is James' vision for the DCU, is exciting for all of us,” he shared. “It shows that people are interested and they know that Superman is more than just a standalone movie. It's an installment in something larger and I think everyone is eager to see the next chapter.”

That next chapter, of course, includes Peacemaker. Season 2 is expected to retain its raunchy, offbeat identity while playing a much bigger role in Gunn’s DC masterplan. Characters from Superman, like Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, will appear alongside Peacemaker regulars — making it clear that the world-building isn’t just for the movies anymore.

Peacemaker’s second round is personal — and universal

According to the official synopsis, Season 2 will see him “discover an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be.” But don’t expect wish fulfillment — it’s a setup designed to make him confront his traumatic past and grapple with his future. In other words: same chaos, new emotional depth.

The cast lineup reads like a DCU All-Stars reunion, with Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee all returning. Add Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. and Michael Rooker as the mysterious Red St. Wild, and you've got a stacked ensemble that links Peacemaker to Creature Commandos, Superman, and beyond.

With Gunn writing all eight episodes and directing the premiere, this season promises to be more than just a continuation — it’s a key puzzle piece in a universe that fans are finally excited to explore. And as Cena puts it, the energy Superman generated? It’s contagious.
