Kathryn Hahn is officially returning to Disney+, and this time, it’s not as Agatha Harkness.

New set photos confirm that Hahn has joined the cast of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, an upcoming live-action/animated hybrid series helmed by Iron Man director and The Mandalorian co-creator Jon Favreau.

The project, which began development earlier this year, marks the first major revival of Disney’s original cartoon mascot, Oswald, who predates Mickey Mouse and has largely remained out of the spotlight for decades.

The confirmation came after on-location images surfaced showing Hahn on set at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, filming scenes with an Oswald stand-in while Favreau directed. Though the show’s plot is still under wraps, it is expected to center around the long-forgotten character and reintroduce him to a new generation.

Previously announced cast members of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit include Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Mykal-Michelle Harris, and Ryder Allen. Hahn’s addition, however, had not been made public until now.

This continues her collaboration with Disney following her roles in WandaVision, Agatha All Along, and What If…?. While she isn’t playing a Marvel character this time, her presence adds weight to a series already drawing attention for its nostalgic concept and the involvement of Favreau.

Kathryn Hahn’s casting in Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was not announced in trade reports or press releases. Instead, it was revealed through behind-the-scenes photos that showed her filming at Disneyland. She was seen next to a stand-in for Oswald, working directly under Jon Favreau, who is serving as the showrunner.

These images circulated on social media, primarily through Disney-focused accounts, and confirmed her involvement weeks after other actors had been named. This was the first indication that Hahn had joined the series, even though Deadline’s initial casting report from June made no mention of her.

The project itself has been in quiet development since at least March 2025, when Favreau’s name was first tied to the title. It’s designed as a live-action and animation hybrid, in the same vein as Who Framed Roger Rabbit and 2022’s Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is expected to use real-world locations like Disneyland to blur the line between the cartoon world and reality, which is why production was spotted inside the Anaheim park. This approach also allows Disney to tie the show more directly to its legacy, considering Oswald was Walt Disney’s first cartoon mascot before Mickey Mouse existed.

Before Hahn’s casting surfaced, the only publicly confirmed actors were three young stars: Ravi Cabot-Conyers from Skeleton Crew, Mykal-Michelle Harris from Raven’s Home, and Ryder Allen, best known for The Penguin. All three are believed to be playing central characters, but it’s still unclear how they tie into the Oswald storyline.

With Hahn now part of the project, speculation has grown that she might be playing a park employee, a researcher, or someone with a deeper connection to Oswald’s past. None of that has been officially stated, but photos suggest her character plays an active role in scenes involving Oswald directly.

This marks a shift in Hahn’s Disney+ portfolio. Up to this point, she’s been mainly associated with Marvel Studios. Her breakout in WandaVision as Agatha Harkness led to the spinoff Agatha All Along, and she also voiced a version of the character in What If…?.

Those roles had her rooted in comic book worlds with a darker tone. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, on the other hand, appears to lean into a more family-oriented and whimsical direction, allowing her to explore something different under the same studio umbrella.

Production on the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series is still ongoing. Disney hasn’t announced a release date, nor have they shared any official footage. However, given that filming is already in motion and big names like Hahn and Favreau are confirmed, it’s likely the show will be positioned as a high-profile original for Disney+ in 2026.

For Hahn, this project adds yet another chapter to her expanding list of streaming roles, and for Disney, it’s a chance to finally give Oswald a proper spotlight in the modern era.
