Katrina: Come Hell and High Water: Details about Netflix's upcoming docu-series
Katrina: Come Hell and High Water recounts the devastating and historic tropical cyclone that hit the Gulf Coast in late August 2005. The official press release of the docu-series reads as follows:
"The series sets the stage for a tragedy - whose man-made elements exposed the systemic governmental neglect that led to the city being defenseless in the face of the storm - and Katrina's impact that changed New Orleans irreparably.''
While the tragedy hit New Orleans 20 years ago, its wounds and memories are still fresh in the people's minds, which is what makes it a real disaster. The tragedy claimed over 1,300 lives, and Katrina: Come Hell and High Water also highlights the lives that were saved but changed forever by the effects of the cyclone.
Formed on August 23, 2005, due to the merger of a tropical wave and the remnants of a tropical depression, Katrina eventually transformed into a Category 5 hurricane on August 29, striking New Orleans with all its might, claiming lives, belongings, and memories.
As much as 80% of New Orleans and its neighbouring cities were flooded, causing a massive national and International rescue effort. However, a later investigation proved that the US Army Corps of Engineers, the organization that built a hurricane protection system, particularly levees, was responsible for breached floodwalls. This resulted in Hurricane Katrina entering the city with such major force.
