As the first season of Moon Knight opened to a generally positive response in 2022, expectations have been high about the possibility of a sophomore season. Although no official announcements have been made about the production of the second season of Moon Knight, showrunner Jeremy Slater recently commented on the topic, providing the only insight about the show's future in months.
Slater's comments shed light on the fact that although he was interested in venturing into the sophomore outing, the ultimate fate of Moon Knight depended on the powers that be at Marvel Studios.
Here's everything that we know.
Moon Knight showrunner remarks about the possibility of Season 2
Jeremy Slater recently spoke with ComicBook.com for an interview, during which he shed some light on the possibility of Moon Knight season 2:
"Talk to Kevin Feige, Talk to Oscar Isaac. I think the ball’s really in their court,” Slater said. “It’s as much or as little Moon Knight as Oscar wants to do. Kevin’s the guy with the master plan, and I think when he comes up with a way to really incorporate Moon Knight into there … It’s my hope that we’re gonna see him again, but I’m as curious as the rest of you guys.”
Slater's remarks have consequently opened the door to Marvel's inner workings. While it is understandable that the show is a popular intellectual property for the MCU, it could also be speculated that perhaps Kevin Feige is at the moment more concerned with bringing The Multiverse Saga and Phase 6 to completion. This consequently keeps the hope alive that the show might be explored in greater detail in the next phase of the MCU. This shouldn't be too much of an issue, however, since the debut season ended with ripe possibilities that could be utilized by the sophomore season.
Another reason behind the Oscar Isaac-led show being consigned to the back-burner might be the fact that the first season of the show premiered in a different day and age, i.e., prior to the creative overhaul that underwent on Daredevil: Born Again.
Oscar Isaac opens up about the first season of the show
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Oscar Isaac spoke his mind about being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
"I had reservations and hesitations about going into this world because I didn't know what to expect, It wasn't a character I was familiar with. There's a lot of superhero content out there, so I wasn't sure if we needed another one — especially one that was about six hours. There was a very small target to hit with this in order for me to feel really amped up about doing it."
He further added:
"What I didn't expect was that it was going to be such a collaborative experience. Not only for me, but everyone involved. There was so much freedom to fail, to try stuff. You only get a good idea by saying a lot of dumb ideas first, generally. There was a lot of trust in that process. I think that was a big surprise."
