Wilson's bestselling novel, Nothing to See Here, features a unique story about two close friends, Lillian and Madison, who become separated when Lillian is suddenly expelled from school for an offense. Years later, Madison is a 28-year-old married woman with twin stepkids. Her husband, a senator, is mostly absent as a father. That's when Lillian reenters her life as Madison reconnects with her out of an urgent need. She wants Lillian to look after the twin duo.
But here is the twist: the children have a unique and otherworldly ability. Whenever they get upset, they ignite into flames. The rest of the story follows Lillian's experience with the children, as well as the mental changes she goes through during the process.
The book explores the complex politics of family structures, relationships, class, love, and loneliness. It weaves humor and fantasy into an engaging narrative. One quote from the book is sure to make a lasting impression on the reader's heart, as it reads:
“They didn’t want to set the world on fire. They just wanted to be less alone in it.”
Upon its release, the book received rave reviews. According to Deadline, Nothing to See Here has been praised as the 'Best Book of the Year' by several prominent print media outlets, including TIME, Entertainment Weekly, The New York Times Book Review, USA Today, and others.
As per Arts. Gov, here is a review written about the book by USA Times:
“It’s a giddily lunatic premise, one that author Kevin Wilson grounds with humor and deadpan matter-of-factness….But what dazzles most are the warmly rendered dynamics of an ad hoc, dysfunctional family that desperately wants to work.”
