While Carol was busy in her globe-trotting getaway with Zosia, Manousos, in his staunch anti-Others conviction, went into full research mode in Pluribus. Even though he has not yet managed to figure out how to unjoin everyone, now that Carol has joined him, it's clear that the two of them will put all of themselves into trying again, and Manousos's research will also contribute to these efforts.

Manousos, being one of the only unjoined who felt the same way as Carol did, had fans of the show convinced that once he made his journey to her (alive and well), they would constantly hit it off. However, this was not the case at all because Carol had softened in the time being, becoming more protective towards the Others, acting as a thorn in Manousos's staunch efforts to reverse the joining.

Keep reading to find out how Manousos' research will contribute to Pluribus Season 2.

Carol has a lot of conflicted feelings toward the Others, very different from where she started, and a lot of it has been due to her developing feelings for Zosia and a realization that she might not be as individualistic as she originally thought herself to be. The first season of Pluribus navigated through a lot of these ups and downs in Carol's understanding of herself and of the Others.

However, for the other unjoined Manousos, who wants to reverse the hivemind, everything has been clear from the get-go. His staunch conviction is constant throughout the season, even refusing to accept help and paying for any and all goods he takes. Even when he is on the verge of dying, and the Others finally help him finish his journey to Carol, the show is conveniently ambiguous about whether he actually explicitly asked for the help or the hivemind took his gesture as consent, regardless.

So, while Carol continued to struggle, Manousos found himself deep in research about joining and finding the key to disrupting it. In his research, he discovers that the key seems to be a particular radio frequency: 8.613.0, as this frequency emitted a pulsing chattering unlike all other frequencies. He then tries to disrupt this frequency by screaming at one of the Others, Rick, to see if it made any effect on the voice emanating from the frequency.

To his surprise, his negative emotions caused the hivemind to suffer, and a whine was heard from the frequency. On discovering this, he tries to make it through his noise and get Rick, the hive mind individual, to return to his own body. His efforts, however, are unsuccessful.

In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, creatives behind the show explain that even though his experiment failed, scientific discoveries always go through several failures before succeeding because they infer and learn from each experiment, just as Manousos does. Senior writer Gordon Smith explains:

"An experiment within the scientific method, generally, moves through failure, and it keeps moving through failure. You learn more from saying, “That’s not right. It did not stop them from being joined, but I did learn something. So what did I learn?” What he learned and what he can do with it is hopefully going to be brought out in season two."

So, the creatives behind Pluribus Season 2 have a clear idea about how they want to use Manousos' research in the second season as he and Carol try to reverse the unjoining before they use her frozen eggs to get stem cells and have her join the hivemind against her wishes.
