Norton stars as Harold Godwinson and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau stars as William, Duke of Normandy. King & Conqueror focuses on the events that led to the eventual Norman Conquest of England. The show’s first episode introduced the characters of Harold, Earl of Wessex (Norton), William, Duke of Normandy (Coster-Waldau), Edith Swan-Neck (Beecham), and Matilda (Poésy). The episode looked at the current earldoms of England: Wessex, Mercia, Northumbria. Amidst this, William receives an invitation for the coronation ceremony of his cousin, Edward. The episode also looks at Matilda, William’s clever wife, who thinks that something is afoot. On the other hand, Lady Emma, mother of Edward, is also cunning and observing all the political allies closely.
