King The Land ending explained: Sa Rang and Gu Won's happily ever after 

King The Land is a Netflix K-Drama, the first season of which came to a conclusion back in 2023. The finale episode of King The Land effectively set up a bright future for Sa Rang and Gu Won, as they finally came together and tied the knot at the very King The Land hotel where they had initially fallen for each other.

The finale also indicated a bright future for Sa Rang’s business operations, as by this time she had opened her own hotel, which was doing remarkably well. Gu Won, on his part, had successfully emerged as the new heir of the King Group and continued to assist Sa Rang in a part-time capacity.

Sa Rang and Gu Won finally tied the knot on the King The Land finale

The romance between Sa Rang and Gu Won had been fraught with difficulties all along King The Land, as is typical of any well-written romance. The two initially rubbed each other the wrong way, with Sa Rang considering Gu Won to be arrogant following his return from overseas, and Gu Won believing that Sa Rang was replete with a fake sense of propriety, as she was constantly seen smiling while working as a concierge at the hotel.

The ending of the show shed some light on Gu Won’s troubled past, which involved his mother leaving him during childhood, and consequently, he developed a distaste for people smiling.

Gu Won’s father, the Chairman of the King Group, wanted him to marry the daughter of another affluent family called Yuri. Gu Won was firm in his disapproval and took it up with Yuri, stating that she should marry someone else, as he was in love with Sa Rang.

After Gu Won became the successor to the King empire, he was sent on extensive work tours, and Sa Rang was sent away to a remote branch of the hotel chain to widen the gulf between the two lovers on King The Land.

However, all measures to keep them apart failed, as Sa Rang and Gu Won tied the knot right at the hotel itself.

Lee Junho and YoonA open up about King The Land

Speaking in an interview with Soompi, actress YoonA, who played Sa Rang on the show, opened up about her preparation for the role:

"While filming, I went to a hotel to attend a friend’s wedding, I ended up carefully watching how they served food. And figured it was the same way I was taught. While filming, I went to places I would’ve never gone to as a guest, like the linen room and kitchen, so it felt new and fun."

Lee Junho, who played Gu Won, similarly expressed his delight at the leading pair’s chemistry:

"It was so comfortable and our chemistry was really great. And the director always said this. ‘You two are so good at caring for each other.’ It was a set where we could each do what we needed to do well, and communicate well without speaking. The director really liked us and we really liked them too.”
