Landman Season 2 episode 7, Forever Is an Instant, was released on December 28, 2026. The episode featured betrayals, life-changing decisions, a risky gas venture, and workplace secrets. It also ended up making a series history that the show wouldn't want to celebrate.

While Landman Season 2 episode 7 tried to slow things down and focus on emotions rather than the oil business, which usually gets the spotlight, it ended up making an unfortunate record in the show’s history. Instead of being praised for depth, the episode has ended up becoming the lowest-rated episode of the show.

Landman Season 2 episode 7 is the show's lowest rated episode till date

Landman Season 2 Episode 7 made a series history that it wouldn’t want to celebrate because it holds a rating of 6.4/10 on IMDb, making it the lowest rated episode of the entire series till now. All the other episodes of the show have a rating of 7 or above, and thus a 6.4 rating doesn't look too great for the show. It is also the first episode to move away from the conflicts of the oil-field business and focus more on personal relationships, which proved not to have the desired effect.

The episode begins with Charlie revealing to Rebecca that the new gas well has only a ten percent chance of success. Even so, Rebecca and Nate decide to move forward with a lawsuit. Their aim is to delay progress until M-Tex secures funding, and they believe a jury trial would work better in their favor than arbitration, showing the calculated risks that are being taken in Landman Season 2.

Tensions rise when Nate learns that Rebecca has been involved with Charlie, who works under her. This puts Nate in a tough position, as company policy requires him to report the situation to the board. Rebecca later turns to Tommy for support. He minimizes the issue, pointing out her strong results and reminding her that the company has overlooked many violations before.

Outside the legal mess, the episode shifts to Dale, Russ, and B.R. hosting a cookout to celebrate Boss completing twenty years at M-Tex. During the gathering, Boss announces his retirement after receiving a special Rolex. T.L. encourages Tommy to appreciate his life, leading Tommy to reassure Angela about his feelings. Moreover, Cooper proposes to Ariana using his mother’s engagement ring.

There was thus quite a change in the tone of the episode, which unfortunately did not resonate too well with the audience. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Landman Season 2 currently has a 43% score on the Popcornmeter, far below Season 1’s 64%. Critics, however, disagree, giving both seasons a 78% score on the Tomatometer. Despite mixed reactions, Season 3 is confirmed because Paramount renewed the series back in March 2025. Thus, this little hiccup won't affect the show's near future too much. However, it might be an indication of what kind of storylines or tone the audiences of the show prefer.

Landman is created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, who also executive produce the show along with David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ronald Burkle, Bob Yari, Geyer Kosinski, Dan Friedkin, Jason Hoch, Scott Brown, Megan Creydt, Peter Feldman, Michael Friedman, Stephen Kay and J.K. Nickell. The production companies behind the show are Imperative Entertainment, Texas Monthly, Bosque Ranch Productions, 101 Studios, Paramount Television Studios, and Paramount+ Originals.

Landman Season 2 episode 8, Handsome Touched Me, will be released on Paramount+ on January 4, 2026. All episodes of the show are streaming on Paramount+.
