Landman Season 2 Episode 8 is titled Handsome Touched Me. It dropped on Paramount+ on January 4, 2026.
Taylor Sheridan keeps digging into the chaotic world of oil, and this episode turns up the heat on Tommy Norris. He is still trying to balance life as M-Tex Oil’s President with his old-school landman work, and the stress is catching up. Billy Bob Thornton brings Tommy’s struggles to life as the story pushes him closer to some big choices about his future at M-Tex, and maybe hanging up his landman hat.
Tommy has his hands full in Landman Season 2 Episode 8. On one side, he is tangled up in a standoff with Cami Miller from M-Tex about a high-stakes offshore drilling deal fueled by cartel boss Dan “Gallino” Morrell. At the same time, Tommy can’t ignore what’s happening at home. His dad, T.L. Norris, needs real help now, not just for depression, but for everything his body has been through.
All this pressure, both at work and with his family, keeps pushing the same question that has been hanging over Landman Season 2: Is Tommy Norris finally ready to hang it up and leave the landman life behind?
Landman Season 2 Episode 8: Is Tommy retiring as a landman?

Season 2 has repeatedly highlighted the impracticability of Tommy’s current position. The season has been hinting at the idea that perhaps Tommy should retire and live as a family man rather than a landman. Landman Season 2 Episode 8 intensifies this tension because Tommy is torn between the corporate mindset of Fort Worth and the practical problem-solving nature that makes him a landman in the oil fields of Midland.
The episode begins with Tommy having to face several crises at the same time. Upon meeting his attorney, Nate, who tells him of the dire state of finances in the company, Tommy learns that his father, T.L., has gotten into the pool and can no longer drag himself out, not because of physical inability, but because of a depressive state that is taking its toll. In one of the most moving scenes that depict the emotional intelligence of Tommy, he does not just save his father but leads him out as T.L. comes to realize his strength. This leads to their first genuine embrace in decades.
Tommy understands that his father requires constant care and, as a result, makes a rather unusual choice. He employs Cheyenne, an exotic dancer in Rick’s Cabaret, as a physical therapist to T.L. The idea put forward by Tommy shows that he is a practical man of wisdom: a typical physical therapist could hurt the ego of his father, but a pretty woman delivering the same services would be accepted. This gamble works, and T.L. becomes responsive to the care of Cheyenne.
At the same time, in Landman Season 2 Episode 8, Tommy formally introduces his son Cooper Norris into the operations of M-Tex as a manager. He has already, to some degree, surrendered the reins to Cooper. Should he rise to be a good landman, perhaps Tommy can then hang his hat and spend all his days with his family. This shift implies that Tommy is getting ready to leave active fieldwork eventually and train Cooper to assume the landman duties that have characterized his life.
Meanwhile, M-Tex faces a risky choice concerning the offshore drilling project. Geologist Charlie cautions that the rig must have encountered a minor gas pocket and not a big reserve, and that additional drilling would be a massive investment bet. Tommy and attorneys Nate and Rebecca urge the less risky alternative: insurance payout by suing.
However, Cami Miller decides to go ahead with drilling. This is out of a desire to prove herself and safeguard the memory of her late husband, Monty. But this determination is bolstered by a disturbing experience at a bar.
Later on, investor Dan Morrell tells Tommy the truth: he feels that M-Tex will go down in three years, but will still be paid back his $400 million in royalties, while Cami will still have her trust fund to protect her. It is a victory to them, but a looming disaster to the company, and its staff leaves Tommy helpless.

Landman Season 2 Episode 8 sets emphasis on the difference between the collapsing work life of Tommy and his growing personal life. During a casino trip, Angela wins more than $300,000, and she also hosts a warm baseball-themed family dinner, a joy that Tommy hardly ever experiences.
As his presidency is crumbling, the personal world of Tommy blossoms. He reunites with Angela, becomes closer to his father, T.L., and sees Cooper manage to propose to Ariana, which indicates that his life might be happier without the corporate role. Landman Season 2 is leading to this turning point. Living with T.L. makes Tommy think about work-life balance, and in Episode 7, he even makes it a point to be “off the clock” more frequently. It becomes apparent that his priorities have changed.
One of the biggest threats Tommy faces at M-Tex is his failed relationship with Cami. In Landman Season 2 Episode 6, we find out that she doesn’t trust Tommy because of the financial collapse in the 2008 crash, when he did not hedge his investments, in contrast to Monty. Tommy confesses this to Danny, and that is why Cami does not trust his judgment anymore.
The mistrust makes cooperation impossible. Cami consistently disregards the advice of Tommy and instead proceeds to act on the instructions of Dan Morrell. Once the trusted right hand of Monty, Tommy is now dispensable and the offshore drilling decision makes this fact clear, as Cami ignores his professional advice to prove herself.
As Landman is renewed through Season 3, the plot appears to be shifting. Tommy can leave M-Tex and shift attention instead to Cooper, with Tommy assuming a less dangerous and secondary role. Through two seasons, the series has been instrumental in developing Tommy to become a reluctant president and a burned-out executive. The message is obvious: he is a landman in his character; however, maybe it is high time to leave that risky life to the next generation.

Although Landman Season 2 Episode 8 does not answer this question directly, whether or not Tommy Norris is retiring as a landman, there are strong indications that this is going to happen. The thematic focus of the episode on work-life balance, the way in which Tommy delegates his duties to Cooper, his better family relationships, and his lack of power in the corporate hierarchy of M-Tex all suggest a future in which Tommy does not actively operate in the field.
The series has been confirmed to have a third season. Therefore, in case Tommy retires, will Cooper be in the center spot, where Tommy plays a more of a backseat role? The question will probably be resolved during the last two episodes of the season, which will be aired on January 11 and January 18, 2026.
What is definitely clear is that Tommy Norris cannot go on indefinitely, balancing two irreconcilable positions as his company makes decisions that will only favor everyone but the employees.
Landman Season 2 is now streaming on Paramount+.
