John Economos is the underrated hero in Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 4, Need I Say Door. Until now, Economos has been struggling between his loyalty to Christopher Smith and his job as an A.R.G.U.S. agent. This episode subtly shows Economos's choice in the series. He was the one who warned Leota Adebayo about Rick Flag Sr. surveilling Chris, and he again plays a major role in the fourth episode as well.
In fact, the episode sees Economos being more confrontational, something not seen in the previous three episodes. He is more open about his discomfort in helping A.R.G.U.S. bring down his friend and even stalls hacking into the keypad securing the lock of the QUC in Chris's house. The synopsis of Peacemaker Season 2 reads:
"As A.R.G.U.S. ramps up efforts to find the QUC, Harcourt receives a tempting offer from Flag -- which comes at a steep cost to Peacemaker."
But one of the most satisfying moments of the episode comes in the second act, which sees him teaching Tim Meadows' Langston Fleury a lesson for calling him “Ginger Cool.”
Economos spits on Fleury a lesson in this Peacemaker Season 2 episode:
As mentioned earlier in the second act of the Peacemaker Season 2 episode, Economos is ordered by Sasha Bordeaux and Langston Fleury to open the QUC door in Chris's home, which is protected by an electrical lock that needs to be hacked. It is here that he expresses his discomfort with what's happening and spits directly on Fleury's eyes when the latter calls him "Ginger Cool."
Economos had warned Fleury not to call him that, and yet he did not listen. Not to forget their rude interaction in the second episode, which saw Fleury taking Economos without permission. Bordeaux orders Economos to hack the door, for which he tells her that he needs to retrieve a hacking device from the A.R.G.U.S. van. Economos uses this opportunity to call Chris, who requests the former to stall a bit.
This episode of Peacemaker Season 2 also explains the QUC technology:
The Quantum Unfolding Chamber, or QUC, was seen first in the season 1 premiere, but it is the fourth episode of Peacemaker Season 2 that reveals its origin. Before this episode, several fan theories suggested that the DCU's Auggie Smith collaborated with LuthorCorp to create this pocket dimension technology. However, the fourth episode reveals that Auggie simply stole the technology from an alien he killed.
Turns out the QUC can be created using a metal case that serves as the key to open and close the portal. Chris asks Ecnomos to stall hacking the QUC door at the former's home so that he can close the portal there and open it at his family's dilapidated hunting cabin. Chris successfully manages to close the portal at his house and reopen it in the cabin. Simultaneously, as that happens, Economos manages to unlock the door, only for the A.R.G.U.S. agents to see a normal closet.
Chris is not out of danger yet:
While Chris may have closed the QUC portal inside his house, he is still in danger. Rick Flag Sr. pays a visit to the DCU Emilia Harcourt's place, where he confirms what she has been suspecting for a while. Waller did blacklist her before resigning to take out frustration of her daughter on Emilia. But Flag Sr. does offer Emilia a way back in exchange for betraying Chris.
Just as Chris messages Harcourt to meet her, she gives him the location of a park and informs Flag Sr. The episode closes with her waiting for Chris on a park bench with A.R.G.U.S. agents nearby, waiting for Chris as he drives towards the park.
HBO Max released a promo of the fifth episode that shows A.R.G.U.S. subduing Chris. He is brought to an interrogation with Flag Sr. It seems that Chris will manage to escape A.R.G.U.S. custody, and it is the DCU Harcourt's choice to betray him that may push him to abandon his home dimension and choose the alternate dimension, where he is worshipped.
Four episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 are accessible via streaming on HBO Max. Catch them on the OTT platform as we wait for the fifth episode, Back to the Suture, which will be released on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
