Law & Order: Organized Crime fans got some surprising news on July 28, 2025. While it wasn't an official renewal for the sixth season that they were waiting for, it was confirmed that the fifth season of Organized Crime will air on NBC at 10pm, starting this September. It must be noted that last year, it was reported that the fifth season of the Christopher Meloni-led series was moved to Peacock.
This move to streaming was to make the series edgier than the other Law & Order shows. Now that the fifth season of Law & Order: Organized Crime was not as dark as expected, it seems that NBC has decided to air the ten-episode season on TV. This move will help people catch up with the fifth season, which exclusively streamed on Peacock between April 17, 2025, and June 12, 2025. This airing is also important for the future of Organized Crime.
Law & Order: Organized Crime's Season 6 renewal relies on how well Season 5 performs on air
As noted earlier, Organized Crime's move to streaming for the fifth season was to serialize the series and make it edgier in comparison to the other Law & Order shows. However, the Organized Crime Season 5 did not end up being as dark as the trailer suggested it to be. But it did earn enough of a fan following for NBC to not cancel it yet.
The Deadline report from July 28, 2025, also revealed that NBC is waiting to see how Organized Crime Season 5 performs on air. Its performance is the deciding factor for Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 6's fate. Thus, if you want a sixth season of Organized Crime, make sure to catch the fifth season on NBC at 10pm from September.
What was Organized Crime Season 5 about?
Elliot Stabler has his hands full at the beginning of the fifth season of Organized Crime and finds himself at a crossroads of priorities. The fourth season ended with Elliot learning that his son, Eli, is expecting a child with his girlfriend, Becky. Thus, Eli and Becky are moving in together and Eli will be joining the NYPD. In the fifth season, Elliot is helping Eli navigate the NYPD and fatherhood.
As that happens, Elliot has to leave everything behind for the new mission at hand. Sergeant Ayanna Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt) orders Elliot to go undercover to investigate a gang of truckers suspected of trafficking women by becoming a part of the gang. As the season 5 trailer suggests, Stabler gets into an accident this time that results in him being in a comatose state.
While he does come out of the coma, this season puts Elliot through a ringer. The fifth season will explore:
“The dangerous worlds of cross-border smuggling, high-tech domestic terrorism and a crime family intent on repaying Stabler for the injury he did them in Rome. As his worlds collide, Stabler will put everything on the line to protect the vulnerable and fight for justice.”
Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 5 will begin airing on NBC at 10:00 PM from September 26, 2025.
