Was Dr. Stanton really to blame in Andrew’s case in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 11 Episode 19?
Initially, Dr. Stanton’s involvement in Andrew’s case seemed to be limited to being Andrew’s psychiatrist. However, soon her true nature comes to light. She is the actual culprit in Andrew’s case in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Initially, when the episode begins, the investigators believe that Andrew is dead. They go to Andrew’s mother’s house to inform her about her son’s death.
Right at that moment, Andrew’s mother gets a Skype call. When she picks up the call, she is surprised to see that it is none other than Andrew himself. On seeing that his mother is talking to the police, Andrew cuts the call.

Andrew’s mother informs the investigators that she wanted her son to get better, for which she went to Dr. Stanton. Later in the episode, she also says that Dr. Stanton diagnosed Andrew with early-onset schizophrenia, after which he was hospitalized.
She also tells the investigator that Andrew was previously accused of raping a girl. However, he was not charged, as the psychiatrist, Dr. Stanton, convinced everyone that Andrew belonged in the hospital. The investigation shifts towards Dr. Stanton. While Huang speaks to Dr. Stanton, she reveals that Andrew was put under electroconvulsive therapy and would have become a “fully functioning member of society” if he still were under her care.
She also tells him that Andrew fled the hospital because he was influenced by the con artist named Jack Robinson. With Ken’s help, Andrew is caught and taken into custody for murdering Jack. However, in custody, Andrew begins to reveal that he was attacked by Jack, so he acted in self-defense. He saw that Jack’s face was gone, so he put his ID in his pocket so that he could finally be free. The case takes a further turn when Mallory arrives at the station and tells Don that Andrew did not rape her and that he was her boyfriend.
Huang speaks to Dr. Stanton once again, who dismisses Mallory’s words by saying that it is a “classic guilt reaction.” She then reveals that she was the one who called Mallory’s parents and told them that Andrew raped Mallory. Soon, Dr. Stanton’s facade begins to crumble when it is found that she bailed Andrew out. Huang and Fin visit her home searching for Andrew.
The investigators try to enter Dr. Stanton’s house, but she tries to stop them. Huang and Fin push through and find that Andrew is drugged. Huang and Fin are surprised to hear a baby’s cries and understand that she is involved in this whole situation.
Dr. Stanton is taken in for further investigation, and how she coerced Andrew comes to light. Andrew’s interrogation with Benson also reveals that Dr. Stanton indeed used her position to abuse him. The manner in which Dr. Stanton manipulated the whole situation to her favor truly leaves an impact. This episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit depicts how dangerous these situations can be.
