Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 8 episode 14 begins with a father and son returning to their home. Right when they enter their house, the father is attacked by someone. The little boy runs to his mother for help; however, the mother does not move. Scared, the little boy goes inside a room and rings an alarm to alert the police.

When the investigators arrive, it is revealed that the mother was brutally attacked and murdered. She was raped and then bled to her death. The father, Mr. Truex, was not in a position to speak to the investigators. Benson tries to speak to the little boy so that he can reveal something about the attack. The little boy says that a “monster” hurt his father.

Soon, the investigation began, and Benson and others arrived at Charlotte’s friend, Jennifer’s, house. However, they do not find her there. Jennifer informs them about Charlotte’s boyfriend, Ryan. After they visit Ryan’s house and bring Charlotte to the station, she reveals the incidents that her family has been facing recently.

The case gets more and more complex with each passing moment. At the hospital, Sydney Truex wakes up and informs the police that, after getting hit in the head, he saw his daughter running down the hallway. He then accused his daughter of killing his wife. After further investigation, it is revealed that Charlotte was at a party where she took heavy drugs along with her boyfriend and friends.

Benson and others try to understand how she could have gotten to her home in that state. Back at the station, Charlotte is shown her shoes with her mother’s blood on them. She is shocked to find out that she was there when her mother died. She began to have a breakdown, thinking that she had killed her mother. While at the hospital, it was found out that she often used violence against her mother.

It could be understood that Charlotte might actually be her mother’s killer. However, the plot twist of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 8 episode 14 arrives when the urine that was taken for the screening turns out to be from a man. When Tommy is shown pictures of men so that he can show the “monster”, he picks out Ryan’s photo. Stabler and Benson visit Ryan, but he starts to flee right when he sees them. However, before they could arrest him, Ryan died. Stabler is suspended.

At the hospital, Charlotte is given sodium amytal so that she is able to tell the truth. Under the haze, Charlotte reveals the truth, saying that it was Ryan who brutally killed her mother, and she was there with him. Later, Stabler is found innocent because he did not kill Ryan. Rather, he was trying to save him using CPR. Ryan had a disease that could cause a heart attack at any moment. He was not taking his prescribed medicine as well. This eventually leads to his death.
