Scrubs, the medical comedy which aired from 2001 to 2010, is returning for the 2025–2026 broadcast schedule. The show first ran on NBC for seven seasons, and then on ABC for two seasons, with the tenth season having the subtitle Med School. Scrubs was narrated by Dr. John Michael Dorian (played by Zach Braff) for the first eight seasons, and then by Lucy Bennet (played by Kerry Bishé) for the last two seasons. The show followed how Dr. John Michael Dorian perceived the happenings at Sacred Heart Hospital.
As Deadline reports, Judy Reyes, who played Carla Espinosa in the original show, will be reprising her role in the revival after a decade.
Judy Reyes is returning to Scrubs
Judy Reyes played Head Nurse Carla Espinosa in Scrubs for the first eight seasons. Reyes was nominated for the ALMA Award for Outstanding Actress in a Television Series for playing Nurse Carla Espinosa in 2002, 2006, 2008, and 2009. She won the award in 2006 and 2008.
Reyes is not the only actor from the original show returning to the revival. Other main cast members from the original show are also returning, including Zach Braff as Dr. John Michael Dorian, Donald Faison as Christopher Turk, and Sarah Chalke as Elliot Reid.
The revival of Scrubs would be the second ABC show Reyes is starring in right now. Judy Reyes is also playing Selena Soto, the head of the Major Crimes Division of the LAPD in the show High Potential. She heads the division where the show’s protagonist, Morgan Gillory, works. Reyes is set to return as Selena Soto in High Potential season two, which will premiere on 16th September 2025.
Judy Reyes is also known for her roles in several popular shows. She played Marcie in The Horror of Dolores Roach, Dina Milagro in Jane the Virgin, Zoila Diaz in Devious Maids, Annalise Zayas in Claws, Celie in Birth/Rebirth, Ramona in One Day at a Time, and Kim Verdi in Dr. Death.
No other cast members for the revival have been confirmed yet, but it is said to include both new and old cast members. The revived series will reunite Dr. John Michael Dorian and Dr. Christopher Turk as they return to practice medicine at Sacred Heart Hospital. However, things in the world of medicine are now done differently.
The only thing that hasn’t changed is the friendship between JD and Turk. With Nurse Carla Espinosa and Dr. Elliot Reid joining as well, fans can expect some familiarity in the comedy. At the same time, new cast members will be arriving with new characters to explore.
The revival of Scrubs will be executive produced by Bill Lawrence, who created the original show. He will be joined by Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Tim Hobert, Aseem Batra, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer as fellow executive producers. 20th Television is the producing studio behind the revival.
An official release date for the Scrubs revival is yet to be announced, but it will be released on ABC sometime during the 2025–2026 broadcast window. Stay tuned for more updates about the show.
