Fans of pink, glitter goblins, and Elle Woods can rejoice as Amazon’s Legally Blonde prequel, Elle, just finished filming, and it’s heading our way in summer 2026. We’re about to get the deep dive into Elle’s world before she was slaying courtrooms and dropping iconic “bend and snap” moments. It is serving up how our favorite pink-loving queen became the icon for female empowerment and self-expression.
Production wraps on Legally Blonde prequel: What we know so far

Filming for Elle kicked off in Vancouver at the end of March 2025 and wrapped up in July, as per Hollywood North Buzz. Showrunner Laura Kittrell (known for her work on High School and Insecure) is steering the ship, joined by Caroline Dries (Batwoman) and Reese Witherspoon herself. She is not playing Elle this time, but serving as an executive producer, passing the pink torch to the next gen.
Back in April 2025, Reese Witherspoon took to Instagram to announce the start of filming. Additionally, she revealed that Lexi Minetree will be playing young Elle Woods. Witherspoon expressed excitement and introduce Minetree with a sweet little intro to all the fans.
“She is stepping into these pink shoes with so much grace, ambition, and charm.”
Now, Minetree is running the show, but she has got some serious backup as June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott are stepping in as Elle’s parents. Additionally, the supporting cast features Chandler Kinney, Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Zac Looker, Amy Pietz, and James Van Der Beek.
Filming locations centered around Vancouver, Canada, which means you might get the ‘90s high school vibe. Kittrell’s writing is supposed to be as sharp as ever, and Jason Moore (who directed Pitch Perfect) is handling the first episodes. All signs point to a sparkly, genuinely funny, and heartfelt take on Elle’s early days.
What to expect in 2026 from the Legally Blonde spin-off?
The Legally Blonde prequel is throwing us into Elle Woods’ teenage years, way before she even thought about Harvard or legal jargon. That means we will be watching the show with the late ‘90s vibes, high-school drama, and a whole lot of pink. The show is promising laughs, growing pains, sappy moments, and much fashion inspo.
Lexi Minetree is stepping into Elle’s perky shoes, and Reese Witherspoon is around to make sure nobody spoils her legacy. Supposedly, they’re keeping all the sass and sweetness from the original movies, but there are a bunch of new faces and backstories too. We finally get to see who Elle was before she became the queen of courtroom clapbacks.
So, mark your calendars for 2026. The origin story is coming, and it has got all the confidence that makes Elle, well, Elle.
What is Legally Blonde about?

Now, if you somehow missed the original Legally Blonde, know that Elle Woods is THE blueprint: a sorority queen who bulldozed every stereotype, rocked hot pink at Harvard, and taught an entire generation how to believe in themselves.
When she gets dumped by her boyfriend, Warner Huntington III, because she is not “serious” enough for his political dreams, what does Elle do? She hustles her way into Harvard Law just to win him back.
Once she lands in Harvard, she struggles to fit in with her more serious and skeptical classmates. Meanwhile, Warner is already engaged to Vivian. Elle finally wakes up and realizes Warner is not the one.
Instead of moping, Elle just grinds. She nails her classes and snags an internship with this big-deal law professor. Next thing you know, she is defending a fitness guru, Brooke Windham, who is accused of killing her husband. Elle uses her brains and her ability to spot a bad perm from a mile away to crack the case.
By the end, Elle proves herself. She dumps Warner, makes some real friends, and even finds herself a new guy who respects her. She wins at life, and she does it all in heels.
