Lego Masters’ thrilling semi-final, which featured the difficult “Great Ball Contraption” task, was broadcast on FOX on July 21, 2025. Four groups were given the challenge of designing interconnected mechanisms. Once underway, a LEGO ball had to move around the entire course, smoothly switching between each pair’s constructed structures. The game ended if a failure occurred at any point.
Teams used their creations to bring daring stories to life. Anthony & Joe crafted an amusement park escape tale, Sage & Ian delivered a fairy-tale arc, and Ben & Michael explored a comedic “spaghetti and meatball” theme. Meanwhile, Corey & Rebecca produced a quirky hairbrush rollercoaster. However, a number of builds were impacted by mechanical misfires. Corey & Rebecca’s structure failed structurally, and Ben & Michael and Sage & Ian had to deal with gear and timing issues.
Following extensive testing, Anthony & Joe—whose mechanics and storytelling were the strongest—were given a slot in the finals by Brickmasters Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard. Sage & Ian, who handled pressure well, were also selected to move forward. Meanwhile, the final showdown was set after Corey & Rebecca were eliminated. Perfect engineering, balance, and patience will characterize the finale.
What happened in the Lego Masters Season 5 Semi-Finale?
This week, Lego Masters Season 5's Season 5’s semi-final threw the remaining teams the challenge of building a flawless Great Ball Contraption (GBC). With motors, gears, and narrative components, each pair constructed its own segment. Since a single failure would break the chain, both mechanics and ingenuity were crucial. Only two teams could pass the ultimate LEGO exam, and with just one final spot remaining, the pressure was intense.
The Great Ball Contraption (GBC) challenge
Lego Masters teams were required to create separate parts of a larger moving ball sculpture that would show the journey of a LEGO ping pong ball from beginning to end. In addition to structural accuracy, thematic storytelling was a key goal; each segment had to convey a distinct story.
Continuity was challenged by issues like gear jams, timing mistakes, and structural instability. Since every issue required rework under duress, the GBC proved to be one of the most stressful builds to date.
Finalists Anthony & Joe and Sage & Ian
Following testing, Anthony & Joe and Sage & Ian were selected by judges Brickmasters Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard to advance to the Lego Masters finals. Jamie appreciated Anthony & Joe’s amusement park-themed ball machine for its consistent mechanics and seamless storyline, saying it “felt like a complete journey.”
Sage and Ian successfully troubleshot their design and impressed the judges with both theme and technical recovery after they encountered an early jam in their fairy-tale build. Their ability to adapt under pressure secured their spot in the finale. Meanwhile, structural breakdown during testing resulted in Corey & Rebecca’s elimination.
Head to FOX and watch the semi-finale before the final showdown airs next week.
