Henry Cavill's exit from The Witcher Season 4 has been one of the biggest controversies for the global streamer Netflix. The announcement that the streamer was moving ahead with the final two seasons and casting Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt in place of Cavill was met with even more skepticism.

Fans were concerned for the direction that the Netflix fantasy show was taking, especially after reports suggested that Cavill's exit was motivated by the 'creative differences' between him as a fan of the game and the show's creatives. For Liam Hemsworth to decide to step in as Cavill's replacement after all this controversy was a concerning move.

In a recent conversation with RadioTimes, Hemsworth reveals that he was himself skeptical about agreeing to step into Geralt's role in The Witcher Season 4, but one major reason convinced him to do so anyway.

Henry Cavill's abrupt and disappointing departure from The Witcher series was the biggest shock for fans of the show. So, for any actor to step into Cavill's role as Geralt had to know that they would be met with more than usual skepticism. Hemsworth reveals that he was also aware of the general reception around him, taking over the role of Geralt after Cavill.

In a recent conversation with RadioTimes, Hemsworth revealed that the general situation around The Witcher Season 4 had him very skeptical about choosing to step into the role of Geralt:

"When I first got approached, I was pretty reluctant at that point. [I had] a lot of concerns and questions about it all."

He went on to specify the exact situation that contributed to his reluctance to take the role:

"Just the situation [of] coming into a series that's already established a really passionate fanbase. I appreciate these fans, and I appreciate the fact that they care so much about it."

However, the one reason that shone through his reluctance to take the role was his love for the games, the series, and the books. The fact that he was himself a fan of the books and the game as well forced him to consider whether he could add something to this character by taking up the role at this stage of The Witcher Season 4:

"I think if I wasn't a fan myself, if I didn't care about it, I wouldn't have come on board. The reason I came on board was because I was a fan, and because I thought that I could do justice to this character. I thought that could bring an interesting interpretation to this part of the story."

The fact that Geralt is at a point in his story where he is forced to reconsider who he is and accept help in a situation where he cannot be a lone wolf anymore also attracted Hemsworth to take this role despite the skepticism.

Nevertheless, we'll have to wait until the October 30 premiere of The Witcher Season 4 to find out if Hemsworth has managed to do justice to Geralt's character.
