When season 26 of Law & Order: SVU premiered last year, the show stars Ice-T and Mariska Hargitay appeared on the Entertainment Weekly interview and talked about their bond in the show and chemistry, and some iconic moments from the hit procedural drama.

The Law & Order: SVU star explained what kind of relationship his and Mariska's character (Fin and Olivia) share, which is unique and not like the other couples featured in the show:

"With Me and Mariska, it's like I have her back, and that's my job. She is the boss, and I'm shotgun, and nobody messes with her. So it's never been that type of energy, although you know off-screen we have love-child," the actor said while laughing it out.

Here is what Ice-T and Mariska said about some iconic scenes in Law & Order: SVU

Ice-T revealed how Fin and Olivia were never jealous of each other's actions as they share a stronger bond. His comment describes it as someone who will always be there for each other, no matter what. "She is the boss and I am shotgun" is something that clearly describes their relation, which is beyond these petty issues and completely platonic.

Olivia Benson is a detective with the NYPD's special victims unit that investigates cases related to s*xual assaults, child abuse, and other s*x crimes. On the other hand, Ice-T's character Fin Tutuola is a detective who later becomes a sergeant in the SVU unit. The actor joined Law & Order: SVU in season 2 and has remained a main cast member since then.

Benson and Fin together represent two sides of the same mission. This is because Benson works as the advocate and leader, while Fin is the investigator who works more on the ground with lived experience. Their chemistry and how they back each other up have been key to SVU’s durability; they continue to face both personal and professional challenges.

In an Entertainment Weekly interview, the actors reacted to some iconic scenes from the show. Mariska reacted to the 2015 episode in which Olivia finalizes the adoption of her son Noah with the help of defense attorney Trevor:

“I wanted to be a mother so much on the show. And I remember when [former showrunner] Warren Leight pitched me the episode, because it was based on a true story. And we both cried when he told me about it.”

During the interview, EW played that adoption scene for her, and she became emotional watching it:

“Look at Peter with his beard,” she said, tearing up. “I’ve been through so much on this show!”

This reaction of hers also reflects her real-life journey into motherhood, as Peter, who plays Trevor, is also Mariska's real-life husband. She shares three children with him, two of them are adopted.

Ice-T reacted to the cameo of his wife and the Broadway actors he interrogated in the show:

“I interrogated SpongeBob off of Broadway, Aladdin, the Genie! Whenever I meet people on the show, I’m like, ‘Are you on Broadway? Can you sing?’ And you never know.”

The Law & Order: SVU star also proudly recalled his wife, Coco Austin’s, multiple guest appearances:

“They were casting and said, ‘We want a curvy girl… like Coco’s size.’ And somebody said, ‘Why don’t we just use Coco?’ And they’re like, ‘Ask Coco.’ This show’s cool like that.”

Therefore, we can say that Law & Order: SVU is connected with the city's theatre talent, while it also extends the reel family to be the real family as well.

Season 27 of Law & Order: SVU premiered on September 25, 2025, and its episode 7, 'False Idols,' is set to drop on November 13th as per the weekly release schedule.
