Fans of Lioness Season 3 can rejoice as the spy thriller show has been renewed by Paramount+. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the action-packed and suspenseful series features Zoe Saldaña, Jill Wagner, Dave Annable, and others.

The show began airing in 2023 and has two seasons so far. Lioness Season 3 will continue to focus on the story of Joe McNamara (Saldaña), who is a CIA senior case officer and is in charge of the Lioness program. Nicole Kidman plays Kaitlyn Meade, who is Joe’s boss, and Morgan Freeman plays Edwin Mullins, who is the US Secretary of State.

The show’s first season set a record of being Paramount+’s most-watched worldwide series premiere, and it is no wonder then that the show continues to be renewed by the studio.

As reported by Deadline, Paramount+ has renewed Lioness Season 3, and according to sources, the cause for the delay in the show getting renewed was that Nicole Kidman was making a new deal. Here’s more on the story.

While the first season of the show received mixed reviews and did not make a mark as a landmark spy thriller series, even though it had a lot of heavyweights, the second season of the show turned around its fortunes.

The second season was much better reviewed and critics, and viewers liked the show much more. Therefore, fans had been eagerly waiting for an update regarding Lioness Season 3.

However, the cause for the delay has now been revealed. While Saldaña had confirmed in interviews that she had signed a three-season contract, it was Kidman’s contract, which needed to be renewed, and therefore, caused some delay in the third season being greenlit.

However, according to Screen Rant, it seems that other things also caused a delay. Sheridan has created a lot of shows over the past few years, including his magnum opus, Yellowstone, which is now getting many spin-offs. Therefore, that could also be a reason.

However, since Saldaña had already signed a three-season deal, it was inevitable that Season 3 would make the cut. Further, the Paramount+ and Skydance merger has also led to some delays, but things are now getting streamlined.

The second season of the series focused on Joe, Kaitlyn, and Michael Kelly’s Byron Westfield. All of them had to investigate a new threat, and Joe’s story got even more fleshed out. Therefore, Lioness Season 3 will continue to focus on a new national threat, while also giving more layers to Joe’s character.

The next installment of the show will continue to focus on Joe as she recruits, trains, and supervises female operatives and sends them on thrilling undercover missions. The new season will also continue to look at how Joe’s job puts stress on her family, husband, and her daughter.
