Lisa Ann Walter, a known face from Abbott Elementary, is gearing up for her stand-up special with Hulu

Lisa Ann Walter is known for her remarkable role in ABC’s Abbott Elementary as the tough yet kindhearted public-school teacher, Melissa Schemmenti. Though the coveted role made her a household name, not many know that Walter started her career as a stand-up comic. Her fans will now get a chance to watch her in action as she is set to release a stand-up special for Hulu in 2026.

Walter’s Abbott Elementary costar, Sheryl Lee Ralph, is also part of the comedy special as executive producer along with Michelle Caputo and Shannon Hartman. Walter taped the comedy special at the Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia and has directed as well as executive produced it.

Lisa Ann Walter is gearing up for her stand-up special with Hulu

After being a stand-up comic since the late 1980s, Lisa Ann Walter is set to release comedy special on Hulu in 2026. Walter started doing stand-up comedy after finishing her college. She has been touring for about 20 years now. As a seasoned comic, this will be her debut stand-up project, which is produced by Art & Industry. There are currently no further details on what the stand-up special will feature.

The special will be available to stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. Lisa Ann Walter’s stand-up special, which was taped at the Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia, will be part of Hulu’s ‘Hularious’ roster that includes other well-known comedians including Jim Gaffigan, Roy Wood Jr., Bill Burr, Jessica Kirson, Matteo Lane, Zarna Garg, Ralph Barbosa and Andrew Santino among others. Hularious has become Hulu’s sought after comedy brand, which was launched on the streaming platform in 2024 with Jim Gaffigan’s The Skinny.

Lisa Ann Walter has been part of many other successful projects as actor, producer and creator. Some of her more memorable performances include the role of Chessy in The Parent Trap, Debbie in Bruce Almighty, Bobbie in Shall We Dance? and Olivia Brooks in Killers. Water joined her The Parent Trap co-star Elaine Hendrix recently in Dancing With The Stars, 'Dedication Night' special. Dennis Quaid also attended the show that aired on ABC on October 14, 2025.

She has also been part of shows such as Life’s Work, Grey’s Anatomy and GLOW. In 2011, she published her bestselling memoir titled ‘The Best Thing About My Ass Is That It’s Behind Me’, which essays battle with body image issue and self-acceptance with hilarious anecdotes.

Abbott Elementary is a mockumentary style comedy series, which revolves around a group of teachers at the underfunded Philadelphia's fictional Willard R. Abbott Elementary School, where Lisa Ann Walter plays a second-grade teacher, Melissa. The Emmy-award winning show, which is created by Quinta Brunson, is currently on its fifth season.

Watch Abbott Elementary Season 5 on Wednesdays on ABC. The episodes will also be available on Hulu the next day.
