“Little kung fu Bulbasaur”: John Economos’ Pokémon reference in Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 4 was simply hilarious

After the intriguing incidents of Peacemaker Season 2 episode 3, where Chris is faced with a moral conflict after facing Rick Flag in the other dimension, the episode ends with Economos and ARGUS agents going to Chris’s house to capture him and kill Eagley.

The fourth episode starts where the third episode leaves off. The fourth episode starts off with Economos tipping Chris about the ARGUS agents’ attack on his house, which quickly leads Chris to escape. Though Economos’ one-liners are always hilarious, his words to describe Judomaster in the fourth episode are just too good and perfectly timed.

Peacemaker Season 2 gets a Pokémon reference

Peacemaker Season 2 has quickly become a fan favorite with James Gunn helming the series. It is not easy to perfectly land one-liners that will be both fresh and become a fan favorite, but Economos’ description of Judomaster in Peacemaker Season 2 definitely makes it work.

After Economos is forced by the ARGUS agents to accompany them to attack Chris’s house, he tries his best to protect his friend. He sends a message to Chris so that he can run away before they are able to catch him. Now, he is completely against Red St. Wild’s ideals, who wants to kill Eagly, so he pushes him while Red St. Wild was aiming his gun at Eagly to kill the bird.

Then, when he is called inside the house, the agents find the secret passage to Quantum Unfolding Chambers. He then voices his disapproval of him being teamed up with Red St. Wild, whom he calls "insane redneck bird-killer, and Judomaster, whom he names "some little kung-fu Bulbasaur".

This Pokémon reference is not only genuinely hilarious but also a perfect example of how Peacemaker Season 2 brings out its unique comedic genius. The tension that was palpable from the very beginning of the mission, when Economos found out the Judomaster would be in the team as well, finally comes out in the form of this hilarious outburst.

While Judomaster and Economos were inside the van en route to Chris’s house, Judomaster was constantly dishing out comments towards Economos in a condescending manner. As Judomaster wears an all-green outfit, it is quite reminiscent of the little Pokémon Bulbasaur.

The fourth episode truly brings out a high-stakes situation as the ARGUS agents are almost able to find out the truth about Quantum Unfolding Chambers. Though Economos opens the door with his equipment, before the agents are able to go inside and find the secret, Chris opens the portal, which changes the location and turns the door in his house into just a normal door leading to his closet.

In this episode, Chris also finally opens up about the portals and the other dimensions to Leota while she picks him up. Leota is initially reluctant to believe Chris’s words as she thinks he is just getting visions, but when Chris presses the issue, she is shocked to hear his words.

Chris also tells her that the other dimension has everything better, as his father and brother are together and supportive, unlike how his father and brother were in the real world.
