Apple TV+’s Loot Season 3, Episode 6, titled “What’s Up With Us,” makes a very significant emotional shift. It deals with the topic of love and the clash of insecurities coming from different social classes and Nicholas's absence is shown to have a substantial impact on the overall mood of the show. After the emotional goodbye in the last episode, Loot is back with a chapter that is still very much a mix of comedy and discomfort, bringing out the weaknesses in the relationship between Molly and Arthur and highlighting how far both characters still have to go in understanding one another. In the absence of Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster), the atmosphere in Loot is quieter. The ensemble has lost a dependable center in his sharp humor and charisma and that sense of loss is felt right away in Episode 6. The plot tries to go back to its usual speed but eventually takes the viewer to a less obvious and more emotionally intense place, particularly in relation to the anniversary trip. This trip was supposed to bring about the union of Molly and Arthur but on the contrary, highlighted their differences instead.A birdwatching anniversary gone wrong in Loot Season 3Molly and Arthur have been a couple for six months now and Arthur has planned something special besides his usual efforts. Arthur surprises Molly with a sentimental, albeit strange, birdwatching trip to San Benito. He tries to spot the rare red-hooded shrike, the bird that is both the episode's symbol and the emotional center.Arthur’s plans in Loot Season 3 Episode 6 come straight from his heart. He pays for a simple hotel room with his own money. He wants to try to keep his independence in that way. For Arthur, the trip is about connection to nature and being true. Unfortunately, it is just that kind of experience which Molly finds hard to appreciate.Molly from the very first moment, reveals her discomfort. She is not at all excited about waiting silently for the birds to come, noting the times and dates and making herself breathe only lightly to avoid local fungus spores. To her, the whole trip feels dull and claustrophobic.Yet there is something even more in her annoyance, a clash of values. Arthur is trying to find meaning in simplicity, whereas Molly is using grand gestures and luxury to measure love. This difference becomes the core of their dispute.Class, control and a shrike in Loot Season 3Tensions grow further in the meeting between Molly and Paula in Loot Season 3 Episode 6, who is an uncompromising leader of the Southern California Alliance of Birders (SCAB). Paula, who has detested Molly from the very beginning, behaves in a way that makes her feel unaffiliated, irrespective of how much effort Molly puts into blending in.Even though Paula’s actions in Loot Season 3 Episode 6 are considered objectively rude, Arthur complicates matters further by aligning with her during a heated argument, an action that leads to the rift between him and Molly. This face-off brings to light something Arthur himself does not completely realize: the subtle and fragile power play among the four of them. Arthur is attempting to keep his independence but gets constantly overrun by Molly’s wealth and her spontaneous generosity. Her love style of fixing, providing, and upgrading, comes into direct clash with Arthur’s need for equality and respect. And then comes the breaking point in Loot Season 3 Episode 6. In her efforts to improve their trip, Molly hires a big tour bus, complete with a DJ and neon lights, for Arthur. To her, it is romance. To him, it is proof that she does not get him at all. When Arthur points this out, Molly reacts very aggressively, accusing him of being insecure about her success. The reason behind her accusation is irrational, but it is unfair and at the same time very human. The subsequent moment is little less than tragicomedy: just as they see the rare red-hooded shrike, the bird that Arthur always wanted to see, it is caught in the bus’s vent and is killed at once without any chance of survival. The metaphor is almost too obvious: what started as a very simple and sincere moment of communion gets literally annihilated by luxury. The scene concludes darkly with Molly and Arthur parting ways, Arthur driving home alone, the unopened champagne bottle still in his trunk, while DJ Liam plays heartbroken tracks and Molly rides in silence till the night.Howard, Destiny and Sofia's emotional dilemma in Loot Season 3As Molly and Arthur's anniversary reaches its climax, Loot incorporates an unstated yet similar subplot. So, when Sofia gets the news of Howard being in a romantic relationship with Destiny, she instantly goes defensive with the thought that Destiny is not serious with him.At first, her concern seems to be coming out of some form of maternal instincts or possibly something more intricate. Howard, on the other hand, asserts that he and Destiny are getting along great, which simply adds more doubt for Sofia. So, he invites her for brunch to show her that everything is great. However, when Destiny doesn't come, it feels like Sofia's fears have been confirmed. And then the plot twist comes: Destiny not being there is neither a sign of her forgetting, nor a sign of neglect, rather, it's an injury. She is in the hospital with a broken wrist.Howard’s relief is, at first, almost funny. However, not much time passes before Sofia discovers the truth. The cause of Destiny's injury turns out to be a whack-a-mole game that she played with her ex-boyfriend, the one she said she had ghosted. Destiny’s request to Sofia to carry out her own breakup with the ex turns the entire situation into a comical one as she reassures Sofia that she is really committed to Howard. The truth is, it is very clear to the viewer that Destiny never thinks of her affair with Howard to be as serious as he does.Sofia gives in and helps her friend, agreeing to deliver the breakup message. When Sofia reenters Destiny's hospital room, she is in for an unexpected experience as she finds Howard and Destiny warmly embracing in bed. This very affectionate moment is not only a surprise to Sofia but it also has a strong impact on her emotions.Tears start to well up in her eyes, but the intentions behind those tears are unclear. Is she shedding tears of pure joy for Howard, or is she lamenting because she realizes how hopeless this situation is?Although not being the most hilarious, Loot Season 3, Episode 6, "What's Up With Us" might be the most telling for all the relationships in the show, giving us a glimpse into the possible future of each of these relationships. The installment exposes the hidden insecurities that lie under the surface for Molly and Arthur and tells the story of a love that is imperfect and can easily collapse because of different expectations.Like the title, Loot Season 3 Episode 6 concludes with ambiguity. So, what’s the situation with Molly and Arthur? Will they manage to patch things up or their split become a fait accompli? Though Loot Season 3 Episode 6 hasn’t got that covered, it certainly makes one keen and perhaps a bit on edge, for the answer to be revealed. For detailed synopsis and fan reactions, follow SoapCentral. Also read: Loot Season 3 release schedule: When do new episodes of the Apple TV series drop?
