How did Candace Montgomery's story unfold in Love & Death?
Candy, whose real name is Candace Montgomery, had an affair with her neighbor and friend Betty Gore's husband, Allan Gore. At that time, Candace was married to her husband, Pat Montgomery, and the two together also had two children.
She first came across her neighbor Betty in the Methodist Church of Lucas, and their bond soon turned into friendship.
After meeting Allan, they began an affair, keeping their relationship casual. However, Allan ended his affair with Candace in 1979 after his wife, Betty, delivered a baby.
On June 13, 1980, Betty finally confronted Candy Montgomery about the affair she was having with her husband, to which Candace replied that it was a long time ago. The argument escalated, and Candace took the ax and attacked Betty forty-one times, leading to her death.
What happened to Candace Montgomery?
Candace Montgomery hired Don Crowder for her trial. According to her statement, she attacked Betty in self-defense after Betty allegedly brought the ax and attacked her first.
During the trial, Allan also confessed to having an affair with Candace, which investigators thought could have been a motive. Through hypnosis, Dr. Fred Fason revealed Candy's past trauma and her adult anger, which played a role in the attack on Betty.
The court found her not guilty, leading to her release. Candy claimed she didn't want to harm Betty and that her actions were to keep herself safe.
Allan, on the other hand, married soon after his wife's death. As for his daughters, Bethany and Alisa, both reportedly started living with Betty's parents after he lost custody.
Where is Candace Montgomery now?
After the trial, Candace and her husband, Pat, went out of the public eye. Following Betty's death, the couple moved to Georgia. However, they soon divorced, according to The Dallas Morning News. According to People, Candace Montgomery now works as a counsellor.
