The final season of You had everything: twists, old characters returning, and Joe Goldberg once again trying to outrun his bloody past. But for many fans, including me, something important was missing: Love Quinn. Yes, she died in Season 3, but her absence in Season 5 felt like a huge gap that the show never addressed properly.

Love wasn’t just another one of Joe’s exes. She was his equal, his mirror. They both had dark, violent sides and understood each other in ways no one else ever did. When Joe killed Love in Season 3, it was shocking, but it made sense for the story to move forward. However, completely leaving her out of the final season? That just didn’t sit right.

Why Love Quinn's presence would've mattered in the season finale

In Season 4, Love appeared briefly in a drug-induced vision. It was short but impactful. You’d think with the show coming full circle in Season 5, she’d show up again, maybe in a flashback, a hallucination, or at least a memory. But no. We saw characters like Paco, Sherry, and even Love’s mom, Dottie, yet there was no sign of Love. Not even a mention.

What makes it worse is that the final season focused so much on Joe facing his past. He finally got exposed for everything he’d done, from Beck to Marienne. So why not include the one person who truly knew the real Joe? Love was the only woman Joe could be completely honest with. She knew his secrets, accepted his flaws, and even killed for him. That kind of connection doesn’t just disappear.

Love wasn’t just important to Joe, she was a major part of the show’s emotional core. Her presence always raised the stakes. Without her, Season 5 felt a little less intense, a little less meaningful. Sure, Joe got what he deserved in the end, but without Love’s ghost hanging over him, it didn’t feel as satisfying.

It’s clear the writers wanted to wrap up Joe’s story with a clean ending, but in doing so, they forgot someone who helped define his journey. You was always about obsession, love, and the darkness people hide. Leaving out Love Quinn, a character who embodied all of that, was a mistake.

Love Quinn was more than just another ex, she was Joe’s match in every way. Her complete absence in the final season of You felt like a missed opportunity to bring Joe’s story full circle. Her presence would’ve added depth, emotion, and closure. Without her, the finale just didn’t hit as hard.
