Love, Take Two Episode 3 recap: Mother and daughter find healing after painful truths

K-dramas aren't just popular for offering some of the best rom-coms, but also comfort dramas like Love, Take Two, which follows the story of a single mother and her daughter who is suffering from a brain tumor.

Coming straight from the creator of Home Town Cha Cha Cha and more acclaimed shows, this one dives into the lives of a single mother, Lee Ji-an, who is also a manager at a construction site. Her daughter Lee Hyo-ri is then revealed to have a brain tumor, after which she tries to stay away from home.

The K-drama also introduced viewers to a father-son duo living in the countryside, where Hyo-ri meets them. Later, it turns out that the man is none other than Ji-an's former schoolmate, whom she liked.

And now, they have to face each other every day as Ji-an plans to live with Hyo-ri in the village. As seen in Love, Take Two Episode 3, Ryu Bo-hyeon takes Hyo-ri surfing as he overheard that she needs this atmosphere to recover.

Love, Take Two Episode 3 recap: Ji-an’s painful memories and a new plan

Love, Take Two Episode 3 "Stay By My Side" kicks off with Ji-an's painful memories about her childhood. When she was just a high schooler, her mother decided to abandon her for a man in Vietnam.

She learned that her mother wants Ji-an to stay in Korea while she lives with the man she loves. Since it was an unexpected announcement and a heartbreaking one, young Jin-an breaks down and yells at her mother.

This way, the episode explains her complicated life and views on family. Now, in the present time, Ji-an is adamant about taking care of her own daughter, Hyo-ri. But Hyo-ri is softly pleading with Sun-young to take Ji-an with her, realizing the strain could potentially ruin their relationship as they develop in the future.

Meanwhile, Ji-an thinks about the old, abandoned house across the village, and suddenly, she is enchanted and taken with the idea of restoring it. She ropes Jeong-seok into visiting the site, although he immediately shuts her down.

Ji-an, however, is persistent and eventually gets Jeong-seok to agree to the site visit, albeit begrudgingly. When Sun-young arrives in the village, Ji-an is excited to tell her about the renovation project.

Sun-young is initially confused and doesn't care, but Ji-an is so into it that she wins Sun-young over at the end! Meanwhile, Hyo-ri's interactions with Bo-hyeon start to get tense, not in a bad way, as she starts trying things she's never done before, and begins with surfing.

Village gossip and changing dynamics in Love, Take Two Episode 3

As the Love, Take Two episode continues, it also features some humorous moments. The villagers in Love, Take Two assume Ji-an and Jeong-seok are romantically involved and possibly taking things to the next level. Amid the speculation, Jeong-seok finally agrees to remodel the mansion, envisioning it as a future home for Ji-an and Hyo-ri.

As for Bo-hyeon and Hyo-ri, the two are getting to know each other well, and since Bo-hyeon knows she's not well, he ensures to keep her happy. After the work at their flower market, the two take off for surfing.

Initially, Bo-hyeon mentioned that Hyo-ri cannot swim, but she insists on going. The youngsters enjoy the day, and Hyo-ri finally steps in as a beginner at surfing. Bo-hyeon is happy to see that she's trying to be hopeful.

Later, after the kids spend an exhilarating day surfing, they gather for dinner at Jeong-seok’s place. During the meal, Tae-oh reminds Jeong-seok that being divorced is nothing to be ashamed of and hints that there’s no reason he shouldn’t date again.

Now that the villagers and others doubt Ji-an and Jeong-seok's relationship, the architect wants to clear things up. However, they are currently focused on renovating the abandoned house.


A health scare in Love, Take Two Episode 3 opens old wounds

As Love, Take Two Episode 3 nears its end, Ji-an discovers Hyo-ri unresponsive nearly with a loss of consciousness. This horrifies Ji-an, and she rushes Hyo-ri to the hospital. Doctors tell Ji-an that Hyo-ri had tonsillitis.

When Hyo-ri regains consciousness, Ji-an decides to open up about her own history and family experience: her father died, and her mother began dating different men and eventually abandoned Ji-an completely to be with one.

This shocks Hyo-ri, who had always heard that her grandmama was kind and loving. Hyo-ri tells Ji-an that she is pretending to be strong for Hyo-ri, which adds another layer of stress to her.

As the moment becomes quite emotional, Ji-an confesses that she’s terrified because she does not know how to be a good mother, and Hyo-ri’s sickness has left her feeling powerless. She asks Hyo-ri not to go too far away so that neither of them can say they have regrets.

This makes Hyo-ri comfortable, and she releases her fears. It feels as if, for the first time in a long time, mother and daughter are able to hold each other for warmth, sharing the discomfort and pain.

They hug each other and Love, Take Two Episode 3 ends.
