Using interviews with ex-mob enforcers, police informants, and journalists, along with old footage, wiretaps, and dramatic re-creations, the series shows the dark side of drug deals, violence, and corruption. It also reveals how Toronto became one of the main centers for the Mafia’s worldwide operations. The official synopsis of the series reads:

“Over three premium hours, MAFIA: MOST WANTED goes inside the ‘Ndrangheta, a criminal organization that began in Calabria, Italy; a world of cocaine, murder, and capos to reveal just how deeply an Italian crime family is embedded in Canada.”
“And how, over 50 years, Canada became more important to the Italian Mafia than the motherland. Master storytellers and larger-than-life characters drawn from the worlds of the mob, the police, and the media unveil a story that until now, has never been told.”

The show has been directed by Trish Dolman. She previously worked on the documentaries British Columbia: An Untold History, Canada in a Day, Some Kind of Love, and Eco-Pirate: The Story of Paul Watson.
