Maigret Season 1 made its debut on the PBS Masterpiece channel in the United States on October 5, 2025, and completed its airing on November 9.
This is a six-part series that takes the beloved classic crime novels of Georges Simenon and gives them a new and modern interpretation. Rather than the vintage Paris, the audience sees the current city, where Maigret is leading La Crim, the serious crime division of the Paris Police Judiciaire. Despite being a Parisian story, the actual shooting was done in Budapest. Benjamin Wainwright takes over the character of Maigret.
The final episode of Maigret wrapped up all the main plotlines and character arcs. The series is about Jules Maigret, a detective who, unlike others, actually listens. He is wise in the street, calm, and not merely another expert on forensics. The show also gets into his private life and family, touching upon the major issues of our time, such as justice and human nature.
In fact, what distinguishes Maigret from the standard detective drama is the balance of crime-solving and intricate character development. This exceptional collaboration is, in particular, very much evident in the last episode.
Recap: Maigret Season 1, Episode 6 – Maigret Comes Home, Part 2

Maigret is back in Saint-Fiacre for the season finale, and the nostalgia hits hard. He has got old ghosts to chase and, well, some baggage that just won’t quit. Out of nowhere, Sophie, the woman who has been haunting his dreams, calls him. She apologizes for snapping at him earlier and tries to drag him back to Paris.
Maigret, being stubborn as ever, stays put. He shows up at mass, and suddenly, an altar boy hands Sophie a phone right in the middle of church. The shock is too much as Sophie drops dead on the spot. That is it. Maigret is officially in deep.
He starts poking around, and it is a hot mess of shady characters: Sophie’s sketchy boyfriend Janos, the estate manager Gautier, his daughter Natalie, and Dr. Bouchardon. They have all got dirt under their nails: cooking the books, selling off bits of the estate for pocket change, lining their own wallets. Their greed basically paved the way for Sophie’s downfall.
Maigret is like a bloodhound, sniffing out every lie. Eventually, he blows the whole scheme wide open and helps Sophie’s son Maurice keep his inheritance. But it is not just about justice for Sophie, since Maigret is up against his own past and all the complicated family drama that comes with it.
Meanwhile, back in Paris, everyone is buzzing over the Antoine Batille murder. Maigret pulls a slick move and draws out the killer, Guillaume Bercy, except things go downhill when Bercy grabs Maigret’s wife, Louise.
But plot twist: Louise keeps her cool, uses her therapist mojo, and actually talks Bercy into giving up. She is not just some detective’s wife; she is the MVP. Their teamwork is way better than the usual cop show clichés. Maigret shows up just as the cops nab Bercy.
The finale doesn’t waste time tying up loose ends. Gautier and his daughter get caught trying to run off with their stash. Maurice keeps his home. Maigret finally lays his demons to rest at Saint-Fiacre. Even the drama at La Crim gets sorted: Cavre’s wild antics get called out, and the squad faces it head-on. The last shot shows Maigret and Louise standing together at the gates of Saint-Fiacre. It is a quiet scene, but you can feel the weight: past and present colliding, justice done, maybe even a glimmer of hope for Maigret and his crew.

The finale is more than just a clean wrap-up. It gives Maigret some real soul. He is not just a walking trench coat; he is a guy who cares about the messes he steps into. While you walk away feeling like that is the end, you are already itching for more.
There are no big cliffhangers, but you can tell they are teeing up Season 2. Saint-Fiacre’s story gets a real ending, Sophie’s murder is put to bed, and Maigret works through his own junk, so the season actually feels finished, not just paused.
However, the word is, they are already cranking away on Season 2. The scripts are cooking, cameras are rolling, even if they haven’t dropped the official news. You know they are not done with these characters. Expect more of Maigret’s vibe, his squad’s banter, and a fresh batch of Paris mysteries.
Critics say that with Maigret finally moving on from his past, Season 2 has space to explore new stories and dig deeper into the rest of the crew. The way things wrap up leaves the door wide open for new faces and new cases.
