Netflix is gearing up for a brand new docuseries, Marines, centered on the chronicles of the U.S. Marine Corps' 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit this November. As already confirmed by multiple sources, Chelsea Yarnell (known for her work in Netflix’s Cheer and America’s) is at the helm of the project, with the production being overseen by Amblin Entertainment Documentaries in association with Lucky8 TV.
According to Deadline, Amblin Entertainment's presidents have reportedly described the upcoming documentary in a statement, saying:
"Marines is a gripping, important look behind the curtain of one of our nation’s most vital institutions."
The four-part docuseries set to release on November 10 will explore the tough lives of young Marines as they try to balance their duties with other human emotions, including the longing to visit their loved ones. It is also a story of bonding among energetic Marines as they seek the right path to leadership while protecting the United States of America. The official synopsis of Marines, per IMDb, reads:
"Follows members of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit as they undergo rigorous training and navigate emotional challenges while forging bonds and grappling with the complexities of life at sea."
When will Marines be released?
Marines will have an exclusive premiere on Netflix on November 10, with all four episodes airing together. As confirmed by Tudum, the executive producers of this US Marine Corps docuseries comprise Sebastian Junger, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Isaac Holub, George Kralovansky, Greg Henry, and Kimberly Woodard.
More about Marines
Marines will portray life at sea for these young men. From marine exercises to intense drills, the documentary will navigate the day-to-day activities of the Marine Corps, thanks to the "unfettered access" granted to the creative team for the same.
Marines will also feature how the unit undergoes rigorous training on a daily basis and what teamwork looks like in unprecedented situations of mental as well as physical pressure. As per Deadline, co-Presidents of Lucky 8 TV have expressed their gratitude to the U.S. Marine Corps and associated media partners for the "dream recipe" required to bring this documentary to life. To quote their exact words:
"This level of access, paired with first-class partners in Amblin and Netflix, was a dream recipe to bring this series to life."
Marines has successfully documented "the perspectives and personalities" across all ranks while also capturing heartwarming moments as the young marines have each other's back in times of need. Not only at the sea, but the docuseries will also reveal what combat looks like on land and in the air.
With footage of on-field trainings to interviews with young marines, the documentary promises to offer a real-time experience to viewers as to how the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit operates every day in the Pacific. The release of Marines has also been aligned with the 250th anniversary celebration of the U.S. Marine Corps' foundation.
