Based on characters from Marvel Comics, the MCU is a popular film and television franchise and with over 35 film releases since 2008, it is the highest-grossing film franchise ever. Marvel is coming out with a new television series, Vision Quest.

The narrative of White Vision, who was last seen in WandaVision, will continue in the new Disney+ series. The journey that Vision takes to discover who he is and what his mission is in life will be the main emphasis of the series. Emily Hampshire, well known for her role on Schitt's Creek, has joined Marvel's Vision Quest as E.D.I.T.H., Tony Stark's AI, implying a larger, perhaps physical part in the growing MCU plot.

More about Schitt’s Creek star joining Marvel

Emily Hampshire is making a significant foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the famous actor is most recognized for her hilarious deadpan performance as Stevie Budd in Schitt's Creek.

In the new Disney+ series Vision Quest, the role of Vision will be portrayed once again by Paul Bettany. Hampshire on the other hand, will not be playing just any character; she will be taking on the digital persona of E.D.I.T.H., Tony Stark's high-tech artificial intelligence system.

E.D.I.T.H. (which brilliantly stands for "Even Dead, I'm The Hero") was first presented in Spider-Man: Far From Home and controls everything from orbiting satellites to an army of drones. We last saw the sunglasses holding the AI being taken by the government following Mysterio's stunning fall and Peter's identity revealed as Spiderman. The system is resurfacing, potentially with a new voice and shape.

For E.D.I.T.H., who was previously voiced off-screen, this casting represents a significant turning point. Hampshire's combination of witty humor and emotional depth might make the character more than a supporting cast member. Marvel's decision implies that E.D.I.T.H. may play a bigger part in the plot, perhaps even taking on a humanoid or holographic appearance.

Following the events of WandaVision, where the revived "White Vision" sailed out in quest of answers and identity, Vision Quest will examine Vision's personal journey. Some of the show's cast members are returning, including Faran Tahir as the original Iron Man villain Raza, T'Nia Miller as the AI Jocasta, and James Spader as Ultron.

Ruaridh Mollica and Todd Stashwick are among the new cast members, with the latter speculated to portray Paladin, an assassin who is hunting Vision for his technology.

Behind the camera, the series is directed by Terry Matalas, well known for his work on 12 Monkeys. Vision Quest is shaping up to be one of the MCU's more thought-provoking initiatives, with issues ranging from memory and identity to artificial awareness.

For Hampshire, this is more than just a casting; it's a career change. She is transitioning from a quirky hotel clerk to a AI powerhouse, ushering in a new era of narrative. Fans of Schitt's Creek may not have imagined her in a sci-fi role, but Marvel definitely sees something futuristic in her—and we're down for it.
