Wonder Man, the upcoming Disney+ Marvel miniseries has renewed excitement for with a brand new promo. It features quirky, candid conversations between key characters, including Ben Kingsley and Yahya Abdul Mateen.

The promo does exactly what the series itself seems to have the potential for: blur lines between performance, characters, off-screen personalities and superhero spectacle. The short yet power-packed clip leans into humor, self-awareness, and character-driven charm rather than traditional MCU appeal.

Wonder Man gets a brand new promo with Ben Kingsley and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

Kingsley sets the fun tone right away with a rather confusing introduction. Him and Yahya say one by one,

“My name is Simon Williams. I’m Trevor Slattery. And this is Wonder Man.”

The line warms up our minds for what to expect in Marvel's upcoming project. Simon Williams is the real name of Wonder Man, while Trevor Slattery is Kingsley’s long-running MCU character, previously known for impersonating the Mandarin.

The characters introduce themselves with their screen names, reinforcing the show’s meta premise. This is a story about actors playing roles inside a world already obsessed with spectacle and reinvention.

Abdul-Mateen, who plays Simon Williams, brings a more personal note to the promo. He reflects on some really warm memories from his childhood. He said that he watched the title in theaters as a child with his father, saying the moment shaped his journey as an actor.

“I wouldn’t be here in this position if it wasn’t for him, so it’s just a dream come true.”

The comment grounds itself not only in context but also in personal emotional territory. This is not just another superhero gig; for Abdul-Mateen, this is a full-circle moment tied to memories.

The promo also subtly reframes Ben Kingsley’s role in the miniseries as Trevor. But when asked whether his character functions as a sidekick, he shuts the idea down without hesitation.

“Sidekick? I would not classify myself as a sidekick. I’m a mentor.”

It suggests a story focused on guidance, competition, and creative control rather than simple hero-and-helper dynamics.

Again, Yahya Abdul-Mateen features to add another playful beat when discussing Von Kovak, the in-universe director behind the remake of the title.

“If I had to describe Von Kovak in one word"

As the actor paused to think, the director himself chimes in to say,

"Simon, he loves me.”

He follows it with a laugh and a joking aside about how it is always great to work with Trevor, signaling an easy rapport and a comedic undercurrent that runs through the show.

At one point, when asked if he is enjoying working on the project, Kingsley simply responds, “Yeah, it’s fun.” The simplicity of the answer feels intentional, cutting through hype with something refreshingly straightforward.

Taken together, the promo positions Wonder Man as a Marvel project that is comfortable poking fun at itself while still taking its characters seriously. Rather than selling scale or stakes, it sells tone.

If this clip is any indication, Wonder Man is aiming to be less about saving the world and more about navigating the performance of heroism itself.
