Marvel Zombies was one of the most anticipated MCU projects of the year, and the excitement is certainly being reflected in its viewership numbers. The adult animated series has attained the number 1 spot on the Disney+ streaming charts, beating Alien: Earth.

After spending weeks in the top 10 list, FX’s Alien: Earth took the prime spot on the streamer after its finale was released on September 23, 2025. However, the place was snatched by Marvel Zombies within a day when it premiered on September 24.

The Marvel series is a fresh take on the superhero genre, as it features fan-favorite heroes as zombies. Meanwhile, a group of survivors has to fight them off and save humanity from destruction.

Marvel Zombies becomes the number one show on Disney+’s top 10 list

Though Disney has yet to reveal the viewership numbers, Marvel Zombies is winning over the global audience as per FlixPatrol. The show is currently trending at number 1 on the streaming platform in over 30 countries, including the US, New Zealand, and Japan.

Apart from its critical acclaim and praise, the viewership can also be attributed to the show’s release strategy. While episodes of Alien: Earth were released weekly, the entire season of Marvel Zombies was dropped at once on September 24, which would have led to more watch hours.

Not only Alien: Earth, the animated series has also surpassed other hit shows like High Potential, Only Murders in the Building, and Grey's Anatomy in terms of Disney+ viewership. What makes the achievement even more special is that the show has been rated TV-MA, which is not the norm with Marvel projects.

The series is an extension of What If... Zombies?! and retells the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame from a zombie apocalypse angle. The series chronicles what could happen if a virus turned superheroes and supervillains into the undead. Its official synopsis reads:

“After the Avengers are overtaken by a zombie plague, a desperate group of survivors discover the key to bringing an end to the super-powered undead, racing across a dystopian landscape and risking life and limb to save their world.”

The show features the voices of Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, Greg Furman as Thor, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang / Ant-Man, Simu Liu as Xu Shang-Chi, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Todd Williams as Eric Brooks / Blade Knight, Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams / Ironheart, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel, and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop.

On the other hand, Alien: Earth is a spin-off of the Alien film franchise and revolves around a hybrid woman and a group of soldiers who have to deal with a massive threat after an alien ship crashes on Earth. The show stars Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Babou Ceesay, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, Lily Newmark, Erana James, Timothy Olyphant, and Adrian Edmondson in the main roles.
