Matlock Season 2 Episode 2: Olympia's ruthless move to save Julian and her family

Matlock Season 2, Episode 1 ends with Edwin and Matty planning to send the evidence Matty skilfully collected from the locker to the New York Times editor. Little do they know that they have an AI version of the Wellbrexa documents. Once again, Olympia gets the upper hand in Episode 2 of Matlock Season 2.

While going through the wardrobe, Olympia notices a white hair strand, and she frantically searches for the documents. When she finds those in the safe, she breathes a sigh of relief. Turns out, she replaced the original documents with the fake ones because she thought Julian could tamper with them. Without the original documents, Matty cannot prove anything.

While on a phone call, she asks Matty to attend the hearing of a case, and well, Matty doesn't ace it this time. However, in the end, the court declares that their client Dasha was acting under duress and therefore not liable for Rocoo's injuries. That's a win! But what happens next is way more thrilling than the courtroom drama.

Olympia confronts Matty and tells her that she knows that Matty stole the documents. Matty asks her whether the documents were present in Olympia's safe from the beginning, to which Olympia replies that they were not, as they were in Julian's safety deposit. Olympia stresses the fact that Julian's father, Senior, forced him to keep the documents safe. Olympia apologizes but warns her that she is willing to go to any extent to save her family. Matty offers her the choice to visit the Times office and reveal all that she knows about Wellbrexa. But here's when Olympia drops the truth bomb as she says,

"The document you stole from me is fake. I mean AI-generated."

Olympia refuses to tell where she hid the original documents. The rift between Matty and Olympia is clear. Matty has no evidence, but she is adamant about sending Julian behind bars, even if the real culprit (mastermind) remains out of prison. Matty tells Olympia to bring the documents the next morning, but Olympia is too sharp. In the court, she excuses herself (she lies about having laryngitis) and forces Matty to take over so that she misses the appointment with the Times editor.

Later, Olympia tells Matty that the documents are in Connecticut in a safe deposit box. Olympia begs Matty for a day to prove Senior's involvement in the case. Matty sends Edwin to pick up the documents with Olympia. Edwin drops a text to Matty when they finally get the document.

Back in the office, Olympia turns fierce. She tells Matty that she has compiled a list of Madeline and Edwin Kingston's federal offenses: bank fraud, fraudulent inducement, illegal wire tapping, and more. Olympia threatens Matty that if she gets too involved in the Wellbrexa case, she will hand the evidence to the court.

Matty firmly answers back,

"You think a jury could convict me? I could burn this courthouse to the ground, and they'd still be eating butterscotch out of my hand. I am untouchable. And if you don't send me the document by the end of the night, it'll be your kids who will grow up without parents."

Olympia plays her final and most crucial move. She emails an audio file to Matty, and it turns out she recorded the entire conversation. It is revealed that Olympia had planned the entire thing. Matlock Season 2 Episode 2 ends with Olympia telling Matty,

"Turns out I didn't need leverage, I just needed to take away yours. From now on, I'm in charge."

Matlock Season 2 Episode 2: Alfie wants Matty to send Joey to rehab

When the DNA results came in, Matty and Edwin were shocked to find out that Joey lied to them about being sober. At the beginning of the Matlock Season 2

Episode 2, we see Alfie trying to make his grandparents understand that Joey needs help. He even manages to give them deets about two rehab centres. He asks Matty to help Joey financially, but she remains adamant. Matty tells him that Joey could come back to him only if he's sober. Alfie isn't happy with his grandparents' decision, and he leaves the breakfast table with a firm comment.

"I hate you."

Edwin assures her that Alfie will calm down and pins it on a teenage tantrum. However, it's quite sad to see Matty and Edwin being so inconsiderate about Alfie's wishes. Alfie might just be a teenager, but his thoughts are clear. Joey might not be sober as of now, but a little help might bring him on the right track.

At the dinner table, Alfie refuses to talk to Matty. Later, Matty decides to help Joey. Edwin hands Joey some money and a rehab contact's details. Alfie thanks his grandparents for helping Joey.

The synopsis for the legal drama reads as follows (via IMDb),
