Matlock Season 2 Episode 4 recap: Deborah Palmer's secret past with Senior threatens Matty and Olympia's mission

Matlock Season 2 Episode 4, titled "Piece of Heart," premiered on October 30, 2025, on CBS. Previously, in Matlock Season 2, we saw how the constant tiff between Matty and Olympia affected their professional and personal life. The reason for the tiff? The investigation of the Wellbrexa scandal.

But in a shocking turn of events, they had to mend their bond, and it seemed like they were finally on the same page. In Episode 3, we saw how a Times reporter called the law firm to ask about the Wellbrexa scandal. What followed was a thorough investigation among the firm's employees to identify the mole. During the interview, Olympia was almost caught. However, when Emmalyn Belvin confessed to writing the Reddit post, they allowed her to take the blame for the leak while continuing their investigation.

The episode opens with Olympia and Matty discussing the next phase of their investigation. Even though they might be allies now, there's a tension between them. But they know one thing: they must remain united to win against Senior.

Matlock Season 2 Episode 4: Alfie's heartfelt attempt to reconnect with his father

Alfie's constant attempt to reconnect with his biological father has been a pivotal subplot of Matlock Season 2. When his father, Joey Danza, showed up during the Season 1 finale, we saw how Matty and Edwin weren't so thrilled about it. Matty even asked him to take a DNA test to prove whether he was really Alfie's father. When the DNA results came back positive, Matty was unsure about allowing him to meet Alfie. Why? She found out that he was not as sober as he claimed to be.

Alfie urged his grandparents to send his father to a rehab centre. In the end, Matty and Edwin helped him financially. Joey finally went to rehab, and it seems like he was really trying hard to change for his son. In this episode, we see Alfie asking his grandparents to help him learn how to repair motorcycles, as he believed this was one of his father's interests. Not just Joey, Alfie was also trying his best to have something in common or at least something to talk about when they first met.

Alfie's hopeful, and so is Joey, but the question remains: Can they unite in the end?

Matlock Season 2 Episode 4 recap: Matty meets Deborah Palmer

After Matty obtained another pivotal document, she continued with the investigation. She tried to establish contact with a mysterious woman from Senior's past. She finally visits Deborah Palmer (Melanie Lynskey), but she did not get many details about Senior or his whereabouts; however, she managed to arrange another meeting.

Matty met Deborah in a bar and tried to dig out some information about Senior. But Deborah remained tight-lipped, and she left the bar all of a sudden. In the end, Matty told Olympia that Deborah had blocked her number. Deborah's constant attempt to avoid conversations regarding Senior is proof that she's hiding something.

Matlock Season 2 Episode 4 recap: Matty's emotional struggle and what's up with Julian

Throughout the episode, we see Matty constantly thinking about her daughter, Ellie. From accompanying Ellie during the scan to singing karaoke with her, Matty almost gets lost in her thoughts.

On the other hand, it seems that Julian might be a hindrance to Olympia and Matty's investigation. Firstly, he tells Olympia that he wants to quit the job, but she asks him to stay so that they can get more information on Senior. However, that's not all; in the end, Olympia informs Matty that Julian has obtained her text messages with Mrs. Belvin and some crucial documents.

Matlock Season 2 Episode 4 peels back more layers of Matty's grief and grit. As she digs deeper into Senior's past, her alliance with Olympia grows tense but determined. The wrongful death case of the week ties seamlessly into Matty's emotional turmoil with Ellie's memory. Deborah adds mystery and charm, hinting at secrets that could shift the Wellbrexa case.
