Fox has ordered Memory of a Killer, a thriller series inspired by the 2003 Belgian film De zaak Alzheimer. Patrick Dempsey has signed up to play the lead in the show, which focuses on a hitman who struggles with the early stages of Alzheimer’s.
The hitman, Angelo Ledda, has been living a double life, and both his lives are threatened when an adversary from his past sets out to destroy him. Ledda has been described as an antihero who starts to lose his memory but gains a conscience.
Memory of a Killer marks Patrick Dempsey’s return to broadcast television, four years after he left ABC’s Grey's Anatomy, in which he played the fan-favorite Dr. Derek Shepherd. If you are excited to see Dempsey in a hitman avatar, here are all the details you need about the upcoming Fox series.
Memory of a Killer follows a hitman dealing with Alzheimer’s
The series chronicles Angelo Ledda, who lives a double life as a hitman and as an ordinary photocopier salesman. Things go awry when he finds out that he is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
To make matters worse, someone from his past starts to threaten his family, and he suspects that his wife’s recent death was not an accident. The hitman then goes on a journey of redemption in order to protect his family, especially his pregnant daughter. The official synopsis of the show reads:
“Angelo Ledda lives two totally separate lives — fearsome NYC hitman and sleepy upstate Cooperstown photocopier salesman and father. Both of them are threatened when he is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, a disease he already lost his older brother to.”
“To further complicate things, he discovers that his wife’s recent death may not have been an accident. When someone comes after his daughter — who is pregnant — it’s clear the wall between his lives has been breached. Angelo must stop whoever’s coming for his family by searching his past hits for clues, and the list is very long.”
The story is inspired by the film De zaak Alzheimer, which in turn was based on Jef Geeraerts’ eponymous novel. The Belgian film has already been remade into a Hollywood film titled Memory, which was directed by Martin Campbell.
Patrick Dempsey plays the lead in Memory of a Killer
Patrick Dempsey stars in the lead role of Angelo Ledda. In the original film, the role was played by Jan Decleir, while in Memory, Liam Neeson stepped into the shoes of the lead hitman named Alex Lewis. The rest of the cast members of the Fox series remain to be announced.
The show is written by Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone, who also serve as executive producers along with Arthur Sarkissian, Cathy Schulman, Peter Bouckaert, and Martin Campbell. The series is produced by Warner Bros. TV and Fox Entertainment. Talking about the project, Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network, released a statement:
“In the spirit of 24 and House, we’re introducing a daring new signature Fox lead, a complicated antihero facing unimaginable danger.”
Memory of a Killer will premiere on Fox in the 2025-26 schedule.
