Mentiras, la serie has been adapted from José Manuel López Velarde's 2009 play, Mentiras, el Musical. The play went on to have one of the longest theatrical runs from a Latin American production, with a tenure that lasted almost 4000 performances, and even a drag show.

The resonance that this play created was undeniable, leading to an adaptation more than 15 years later. The series is set in the latter half of the 20th century in Mexico, where four women come together at a narcissistic man's funeral, a man whom they've all dated (at the same time), and end up as the suspects of his murder.

While Gabriel Ripstein, the creator, director, and showrunner of Mentiras, la serie, brings a lot of his own charm to this series, he also keeps close to the original, keeping true to the spirit of the production that actually enthralled fans for more than a decade:

"In this adaptation, we will pay tribute to a story and characters that the audience adores and expand their universe, thanks to a completely innovative visual narrative. To bring this story to life, told with more than 30 of the most successful songs of the ’80s, we have assembled a spectacular cast and crew."

The four women, Daniela, Yuri, Dulce, and Lupita, are played by brilliant actresses who bring together a perfect mix of melodrama and comedy to this suspenseful series. Daniela, the 'trophy wife,' is played by Belinda, and Yuri, the couple's best friend, is played by Regina Blandón. To add to this drama is the man's secretary, Lupita, who is played by Mariana Treviño. The final character that seems to make this story even more mysterious is Dulce, played by Diana Bovio. These women are forced to live together in a mysterious mansion until they figure out which one of these four women killed Emmanuel Mijares, played by Luis Gerardo Méndez.

Velarde, who was the original creator of the play, is also an important part of this project as an artistic director, so Mentiras, la serie manages to perfectly take a pivotal story and add some brilliant layers to it while staying true to its true form.

All 8 episodes of the first season of Mentiras, la serie are now available to stream on Prime Video.
