The Agency Season 2 is finally in production! Paramount+'s spy thriller series debuted in November 2024 to a viewership of 5.1 million globally and was renewed for another season in December 2024.

A remake of the French series, Le Bureau des Légendes, The Agency follows Martian (Michael Fassbender), a CIA case officer who becomes an undercover agent for a secretive mission. Things get complicated when his past love, Dr. Samia Fatima, shows up unexpectedly.

Paramount+ recently took to their social media to announce that The Agency Season 2 is in production in London. Since Season 1 took 3-5 months to debut on the platform, the sophomore season could likely hit our screens in late 2025.

More on this in our story.

Michael Fassbender’s The Agency Season 2 is now in production

Michael Fassbender’s The Agency wrapped its Season 1 in January 2025 and became Paramount+'s most-streamed new series, garnering positive reviews from both audiences and critics.

There was no surprise that the network renewed The Agency Season 2 in December 2024, even before the Season 1 finale. Michael Fassbender's Martian is just getting started battling the complicated waters of his undercover life, while navigating past relationships.

In an April 2025 interview with ScreenRant, executive producer Joe Wright confirmed that the sophomore season will begin production shortly:

''I think season 2 starts shooting at the end of this month, and I'm very excited by the scripts. The cast are great, and it's gratifying to see that it's having this life. It's great.''

Paramount+ has confirmed this news through their social media with pictures of the returning cast posing with The Agency Season 2 scripts.

In addition to Michael Fassbender, Jodie Turner-Smith (Samia) can also be seen smiling and posing with the Season 2 scripts.

The pictures also confirm more returning cast, including Jeffrey Wright as Henry Ogletree, Martian's boss, John Magaro as Owen Taylor, Katherine Waterston as CIA case officer Naomi, Richard Gere as Station Chief James Bradley, and Ambreen Razia as Blair.

What can you expect from The Agency Season 2?

The Agency Season 2 will likely pick up from the events of the Season 1 finale, which saw Martian make a difficult decision to save the woman he loves. After his plan to recruit Samia as a CIA agent goes awry, she is arrested and put in a Sudanese Black site.

While Martian thinks Sami's fate is set in stone, he learns that she is an important CIA asset, and he directly gets an offer from Richardson to become a secret MI6 agent.

While Martian cannot betray his country by becoming a double agent for the UK's Intelligence, he has no choice. It is also revealed that Martian was being interviewed by the MI6 in the hospital throughout Season 1, and The Agency Season 2 will explore his life as a double agent.

With Sami's future still uncertain, Martian makes the difficult choice to betray his country for the woman he loves, which will have catastrophic consequences in the future.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, creator John-Henry Butterworth discussed James' decision to use Martian against his country and how it will materialize in the upcoming season:

“Martian treats [James] as a friend and asks him for a favor, and instantly this man weaponizes it and uses it against him. He sees Martian having a personal vulnerability and he uses it as a professional weakness and suddenly he’s on him, he’s controlling him and he owns him, and Martian has to try and get out of that trap in order to survive.”
