Season 4 of The White Lotus will be shot in France. This season marks the beginning of a new era for the series with its focus on the French Riviera.

As reported exclusively by Variety, Season 4 of The White Lotus will be filmed in France, in several locations, including Château de La Messardière in Saint-Tropez. The Château de La Messardière is a 19th-century palace that has been converted into a luxury hotel.

Created, written, and directed by Mike White, The White Lotus got renewed for Season 4 by HBO in January 2025.

The White Lotus Season 4 renewal and start timeline

On January 22, 2025, HBO officially gave its stamp of approval to The White Lotus, greenlighting it for a fourth season. The series was renewed weeks before Season 3 premiered, indicative of their confidence in the show.

The White Lotus first premiered in 2021 on HBO.

France confirmed as the setting for The White Lotus Season 4

One of the remarkable aspects of The White Lotus Season 4 is that the series will be set in France. The first three seasons of the series were set in Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand.

The setting has a major effect on the tone, mood, and relationship between characters in the series. In the fourth season, the creator, Mike White, adopts the same approach with a twist, where the series will be set in the lively southern France, in terms of culture and society.

As reported by Deadline, Mike White, in reference to the setting of Season 4, teased and stated,

"For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves of rocks vernacular but there’s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels."

The new setting is in line with the previous desire of White to move away from the depiction of regular themes like tropical coastlines and island resorts, and it would keep the essence of the observational format in place.

Château de La Messardière is designated as one of the hotels for filming

It has been announced that the historic and luxurious Château de La Messardière in Saint Tropez, which is situated on the French Riviera, will be another setting for Season 4 of the TV series The White Lotus.

Originally built during the 19th century as a private home, this particular castle was converted later on into a luxury hotel and is currently a part of the Airelles Collection. The estate lies on several acres of land and comes equipped with amazing views of the Mediterranean shoreline.

As reported by Variety, like the previous seasons, Season 4 will not shoot in a singular resort/location. The production of Season 4 of The White Lotus will take place in several locations in Paris, one of them being the Château de La Messardière.

A shift from the Four Seasons custom

One of the major changes during the fourth season of The White Lotus is the reported absence of the Four Seasons hotel as the primary shooting location.

According to Deadline, HBO had a marketing partnership with the Four Seasons hotel chain. The first few seasons were shot in the Four Seasons resorts in locations such as Maui, Taormina, and Koh Samui. This fourth season breaks the series trend in the aspect that the Château de La Messardière is not affiliated with the Four Seasons hotel chain.

HBO has reportedly not renewed its marketing partnership with Four Seasons. The choice of a French castle reflects the changing perspective, with the retention of the central theme of luxury hotel provision, which has always been central to the show.

Filming timeline and production schedule

As per Vulture, filming of The White Lotus Season 4 will reportedly start in April and is expected to end in October 2026.

Long timeline accommodates filming in coastal and urban locations, as the production is expected to move between Saint-Tropez and other locations within Paris.

Nothing official has been said about the date of its premiere.

Shooting in Château de La Messardière and other properties in Paris

In addition to Château de La Messardière, The White Lotus Season 4 is expected to film scenes in other properties in Paris.

Though no specific hotel besides Château de La Messardière has been revealed as of yet, Variety, as per their source, also reported a plotline connected to the Cannes film festival.

Casting updates for The White Lotus Season 4

The Season 4 cast of The White Lotus has not been announced.

According to Deadline, Alexander Ludwig and AJ Michalka are confirmed to appear in The White Lotus Season 4. Additionally, Helena Bonham Carter is also reportedly in talks to star in the upcoming season of the series.

As was the case in previous seasons, this series will likely introduce a whole new cast of main characters as it continues revolving through its anthology format.

While the original focus remains on the interactions between the guests and the hotel staff, it now comes in addition to further layers of historic, social, and international travel conventions embedded within the French venue.

However, the most important setup in The White Lotus has remained unchanged in the face of all the transformations: an upmarket hospitality setting, the inclusion of people across various social strata and ethnic groups, and the dramatic story will be defined by observation rather than exposure.

The location for season 4 of the popular The White Lotus has already been revealed, and it is going to be in the country of France, with one of the key destinations being the Château de La Messardière of Saint-Tropez.

They are also expected to film in Paris. Shooting for this season was already expected to happen in 2026. There is going to be a huge departure in terms of location since they hosted their previous seasons in Four Seasons Resorts.

This is despite the fact that the unshared storyline and the entire cast are still up in the air. However, the location has already been shown to be a significant clue regarding the fact that the series is soon to take a sharp turn.
