Ed Gein, the subject of Ryan Murphy's Monster: The Ed Gein Story on Netflix, was eventually found guilty of the murders of Bernice Worden and Mary Hogan after a brutal run. However, there are many potential victims like the 15-year-old student, Evelyn Hartley, whose disappearances could not be linked with the infamous serial killer, but their stories are equally tragic.
Ed Gein's potential victim Evelyn is brought to life in Monster: The Ed Gein Story by the popular social media personality and singer Addison Rae. In a recent interview with Netflix Tudum, the Thanksgiving star unpacked her experience on the series' set, bringing Evelyn's tragic tale on-screen and working with talents like Charlie Hunnam and Laurie Metcalf.
While Ed Gein was eventually cleared in Evelyn's disappearance, the babysitter became a victim of Hunnam's Gein in the docu-series, after she accepts a babysitting job that the serial killer was eyeing. Additionally, Evelyn's polio and leg braces are some of the fictional details added to the character for dramatic effects.
Reflecting on her first day on the set, Rae revealed to Netflix Tudum:
“My first day on set, I got to roller-skate, which was really fun. I did get into a [roller-skating] phase after I shot that day. I loved it for about a month.”

Addison Rae unpacks her experience on the Monster: The Ed Gein Story set
Addison Rae's Evelyn found herself pulled by a madman when she was going about her day and doing her babysitting job. Unaware of Ed Gein's mental illness or his jealousy towards her, she walks into the basement in Monster: The Ed Gein Story Episode 3 and is kidnapped by the monster waiting for her in the shadows. The poor 15-year-old girl found herself at the mercy of this monster, who was hellbent on exacting revenge on her.
Contrary to her on-screen relationship with Ed Gein, Rae shared a cordial working relationship with Charlie Hunnam and praised her co-star in an interview with Netflix Tudum. While the brutal scene involving Evelyn and Ed Gein in Monster: The Ed Gein Story was not easy to film, the actor ensured that his female co-star was taken care of during this intense scene. The actress noted:
“His stomach growled while we were doing that scene, and I just remember we both laughed, and we were just like, ‘That needed to happen,’ because it’s nice to have a little bit of a break.''
She added:
''During those intense scenes, where it was just me and him, he was so amazing at checking in, and keeping the flow really positive. He’s such a servant in that way. He just wants everyone to feel supported and comfortable, especially in such vulnerable scenes that feel so intense. I had to get this substance rubbed on my body, and I was mummy-wrapped for a long period of time.''
Addison Rae further appreciated Hunnam's professional behaviour and his attention to detail in all the key scenes she filmed with him.
Addison Rae breaks down her last shot in Monster: The Ed Gein Story
While Addison Rae's Evelyn had a short part in Monster: The Ed Gein Story, her story was tragic and brutal. The creators took many creative liberties with Evelyn's character in the docu-series but she was a haunting reminder of all the victims who disappeared during Ed Gein's reign of horror. Since the authorities found no traces of Evelyn on Ed Gein's Plainfield property, he was publicly cleared in her disappearance in November 1957.
History might not contain evidence of Ed Gein's link with Evelyn, but Monster: The Ed Gein Story's Evelyn ends up on the monster's kill table. Addison Rae remembers her concluding shot in the docu-series, where Ed Gein is covering his latest victim with a wet substance and preparing to mummify her:
''I actually think the last shot I did was on the table when I was wrapped up in this gauze, and had a very soaking wet substance on me. So it was a really interesting way to end the time on the set. I felt really sad that I wasn’t there longer.''
While Rae's time on the Monster: The Ed Gein Story set was short-lived, she revealed that it was special. The actress will cherish the memories she made with the Monster family throughout her life.
Monster: The Ed Gein Story is streaming on Netflix.
