Mr. and Mrs. Murder is a four-part ABC News Studios docuseries now streaming on Hulu. The show revisits how real-estate appraiser Mike Williams vanished during a duck-hunting trip at Lake Seminole in December 2000.
At first, viewers hear theories of an alligator attack, but as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that darker forces were at work. Mr. and Mrs. Murder guide us through interviews, journal entries, and expert insights to reveal how initial assumptions gave way to a shocking truth.
The series also shines a light on the child caught in the middle. Denise Williams’ daughter, Anslee, was only 18 months old when her father disappeared and 19 when her mother was arrested.
Though her parents’ names headline the documentary, Anslee’s experience drives its emotional core. Mr. and Mrs. Murder shows why a child’s life can hinge on events far beyond her control, and it gently reminds viewers that behind every criminal case lies a family trying to heal.
The docuseries follows how a family secret was uncovered

Mr. and Mrs. Murder begins by tracing Mike and Denise’s early years together, with Kathy and Brian as part of their high school circle as well. Viewers learn that Denise married Mike soon after high school, and simultaneously, Kathy and Brian got married as well. Both couples in their friend group shared childhood bonds and religious roots.
On December 16, 2000, Mike set out alone on a duck-hunting trip at Lake Seminole. When he did not return, search teams found his boat and hunting gear, but no sign of his body.
Six months later, waders and a jacket bearing Mike’s license turned up with no alligator bites, raising doubts. Around this time, Kathy learns of Denise and Brian's affair. This section demonstrates how subtle clues, family instincts, and growing suspicions led investigators away from a natural-causes theory towards foul play.
After more than 15 years, Brian Winchester testified to murdering Mike and revealed Denise's role in aiding him in planning it.
Anslee prefers a life away from cameras
After Denise was arrested in May 2019 on her daughter’s nineteenth birthday, Anslee slipped from the headlines. Anslee was estranged from her paternal grandmother, Cheryl, and uncle Nick, after losing her father, Mike. Following that, Anslee lived with her new father figure, Brian, and her mother, Denise, after they got married.
Brian's sister, Jennifer Winchester, remarked about Anslee to ABC News,
"Anslee's father was murdered, and she was raised by the people who did it".
Denise filed for divorce in 2016 when Anslee was 16.
She also spoke for her mother's defence in court and requested leniency at the age of 22. She stated, according to The Sun,
"There’s no way my mother would conspire to kill my father with Brian. She could not bring herself to do that. He acted independently of her. I never once saw him consult with her about anything."
Anslee reportedly lives in Tallahassee.
The series Mr. and Mrs. Murder shows why Anslee’s story matters
By centering on Anslee’s perspective, Mr. and Mrs. Murder highlight the long-term impact of betrayal. Though Denise was convicted of conspiracy and is serving a 30-year sentence, the documentary makes clear that the real echoes of the crime resound most through her child.
Denise Williams’ daughter did not choose this story; yet she remains its living legacy. The show balances legal details with personal reflection, reminding viewers that justice affects real lives in profound ways.
In revisiting this case, the show unfolds with measured pacing and a neutral tone. It neither sensationalizes nor shrinks from difficult truths.
And through it all, Mr. and Mrs. Murder invite us to remember that behind every headline is a human story, especially that of Denise Williams’ daughter, who continues to shape her future beyond the shadows of her parents’ choices. This story was also covered in an episode of Dateline NBC.
