A commercial-free episode, 407 Proxy Authentication Required, was marked by an unconventional therapy session between Elliot and his therapist, Krista, which ended with a shocking realisation that rocked Elliot's world and changed everything he knew about his Mr. Robot personality.

Vera, Elliot and Krista's captor and a ruthless gangster who wanted to build his drug empire in New York, wants Mr. Robot to partner up with him and his insistence to understand Elliot's alter-ego leads to a shocking revelation.

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 7 recap: Vera tries to partner up with Elliot

As Elliot spends more and more time in Vera's captivity, he learns Vera's story, which boils down to him thinking that he has had a rebirth. Vera tells him how he wasted his life on alcohol until he saw a shaman and had a spiritual awakening, and that New York is his home.

He claims that he will rule New York by becoming the ultimate drug dealer and ruler of the city. Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 7 takes a turn when Vera lays out his motives to capture Elliot and Krista. He reveals that Elliot's alternate personality, Mr. Elliot, is his hero and he wants them to team up and rule in New York together.

After Vera threatens to kill Krista, Elliot agrees and brings Mr. Elliot to the forefront. Vera reveals his plan in Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 7, which is to deal drugs, own property and rule in New York. However, Mr. Elliot laughs at Vera's face and says that he will never have enough money.

This was all a ploy and Elliot pretends to hack the Deus Group to steal money from them, only to find the gun in his backpack. However, he realises that Vera had already pulled out the bullets.

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 7: Elliot learns a bitter truth about his father

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 7 takes a wild turn when Vera forces Krista to have a therapy session with Elliot, which takes a horrible turn for him. She takes him back to the day when he believed that his father pushed him out of the window. After he says that he hid Darlene in the closet, Krista asks him why he was threatened by his father.

While Elliot is not ready to accept the truth, Vera vocalises what Elliot is scared to admit, that his father molested him when he was a child. This realization in Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 7 breaks Elliot and he realizes that his Mr. Robot personality cannot help him anymore.

He also realises that while his father did not actually push him out of the window that day, his actions drove Elliot to jump out of the window, leading to the events that followed.

Taking this moment as the perfect opportunity, Vera reveals his own traumas as a child and tries to bond with Elliot as his father used to molest him too. While Vera is trying to convince Elliot, Krista takes this as an opportunity and stabs their captor with a knife, with Elliot watching her in horror.
