Murdaugh: Death in the Family is a true crime drama that follows the Murdaugh family, who are members of a legal dynasty, which means money was not an issue for them. This led to the cover-up of several crimes, until two deaths in the family took place.

Murdaugh: Death in the Family follows a family that seemed great on paper, but had a few skeletons in their closet. While the two deaths in the family were the most horrific thing that happened to the family, issues started when Alex and Maggie Murdaugh's son, Paul Murdaugh, became involved in a boat crash. That incident led to the unfurling of all the family's other secrets.

The logline of Murdaugh: Death in the Family, according to the trailer's YouTube description, is:

"Maggie and Alex enjoy a lavish life of privilege as members of one of South Carolina's most powerful legal dynasties. But when their son Paul is involved in a deadly boat crash, the family is faced with a test unlike any they've ever encountered. As details come to light and new challenges emerge, the family's connections to several mysterious deaths raise questions which threaten everything Maggie and Alex hold dear. Inspired by the popular Murdaugh Murders Podcast."

The Murdaugh: Death in the Family trailer opens with Alex Murdaugh, played by Jason Clarke, who is one of the protagonists of the show, calling dispatch and saying:

''God, this is Alex Murdaugh. I need police and an ambulance immediately.''

Alex seems to report a crime that had taken place, but what most people did not know at the time of the real incident is that he was the one who had committed that crime himself. Jason Clarke is also known for playing George Wilson in The Great Gatsby, Roger Robb in Oppenheimer, Admiral Mark Miller in A House of Dynamite, Grigory Potemkin in Catherine the Great, and Frank Remnick in The Last Frontier.

Alex Murdaugh's wife, Maggie Murdaugh, is played by Patricia Arquette. Arquette has most recently starred as Harmony Cobel / Mrs. Selvig in Severance, and is also known for playing Dede Blanchard in The Act, Peggy Newman in High Desert, and Special Agent / Deputy Director Avery Ryan in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: Cyber.

Buster Murdaugh, Alex and Maggie's older son is played by Will Harrison, while his girlfriend, Brooklynn White is played by Mina Sundwall. Harrison has previously starred as Bob Neuwirth in A Complete Unknown, Graham Dunne in Daisy Jones & the Six, and David Herold in Manhunt. Sundwall on the other hand is known for playing Penny Robinson in Lost in Space, Genevieve in The Graduates, and Lita in Legends of Tomorrow.

Mandy Matney, who investigated the family, their wrongdoings and revealed information about them, is played by Brittany Snow. Snow has most recent starred as Sophie O'Neil in The Hunting Wives and Alice in The Night Agent. She is also known for playing Julia Bechley in Almost Family, Jenna Backstrom in Harry's Law, and Chloe Beale in the Pitch Perfect film series.

Paul Murdaugh, the younger son of Alex and Maggie, who is the one that's involved in the boat crash, is played by Johnny Berchtold. Berchtold is also known for playing Randolph Bradley in The Passenger, Jay Jennings in Gaslit, Jess in Tiny Beautiful Things, and Richard Beck in Reacher.

In Murdaugh: Death in the Family, other members of the Murdaugh family include Randy Murdaugh played by Noah Emmerich, Marian Proctor, played by J. Smith-Cameron, Randolph Murdaugh, played by Gerald McRaney, and John Marvin Murdaugh played by Patch Darragh.

Murdaugh: Death in the Family premieres on October 15, 2025, on Hulu, with the release of the first three episodes. The next five episodes are going to be released weekly on Wednesdays.
