Murder in a Small Town Season 2 Episode 4 recap: The death of Gracie Westing

The story opens with pop sensation Gracie Westing chilling in a rented waterfront property in Porpoise Bay. It turns out her host is Phylliz Diaz, who is juggling endless responsibilities, including a struggling business, nosy neighbors, and an unstable personal life. But peace doesn't last long.

One night, the pop star is found dead where a broken tree branch impales her body. Strange, right? When Detective Karl Alberg arrived, he knew that it wasn't an accident but a murder. The evidence, including broken railings, the angle of her fall, and the crew's nervousness, pointed towards foul play.

Amidst the chaos, Cassandra comforts her friend Phyllis, the property owner.

The investigation leads Karl and his team to two primary suspects-Jade Solanis, Gracie's ex-boyfriend and former music partner, and Jeremy Sanerson, a stalker who once violated a restraining order. Both have reasons to hate her, and strangely, both were seen in town before her death.

Gracie's manager and longtime friend tries to pin the blame on Jade. On the other hand, Jeremy is caught trying to sneak into the morgue, claiming Gracie texted him before her death, warning about the bodyguard. The investigation takes a confusing turn thereafter. The texts check out, and it is found that someone close to Gracie was manipulating the events.

Just when it seems Jade might be responsible, new evidence surfaces. Parker's control over Gracie's career and finances comes under scrutiny. Bank records show money transfers that Parker wasn't a friend that she appeared to be.

Jade confronts her at the hotel, demanding the truth. In a chilling turn, Parker confesses she couldn't bear losing Gracie again, not to Jade, not to anyone. What started as an argument escalated, and Parker points a knife at Jade, asking him to move aside and make way for her to escape. However, Laila and Sid arrive at the right time and save Jade. The flashbacks show the audience what happened to Gracie that night.

Gracie previously met Jade, and they wanted to reunite. When Gracie shared this with Parker, she couldn't handle it. In a moment of rage, she pushed Gracie, sending her over the railing. Parker wants to lawyer up and refuses to accept the events and the 'murderer' label.

Cassandra comforts Phyllis while Sid shares a rare moment of peace with his daughter.
