Murder in a Small Town Season 2 is back, and viewers will immediately notice that the premiere episode did not include two key characters: Edwina Yen (played by Mya Lowe) and Andy Kendrick (played by Fritzy Klevans-Destine).

Created by Ian Weir and based on the crime novels by L.R. Wright, Murder in a Small Town is a Canadian crime drama that premiered in 2024. However, Season 2 of Murder in a Small Town recently premiered on Fox in the US on September 23, 2025.

The show centers on detective Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland), who must solve various crimes and murders in Gibsons, British Columbia, as the Chief of Police. The crime drama features a range of characters, with Edwina and Andy playing significant roles in the first season.

Therefore, it’s surprising that both officers are absent from the Murder in a Small Town Season 2 cast. This absence also makes the introduction of Marcia Gay Harden’s character, Christie Holman, feel awkward. More details on the story below.

Even though only the first episode of the second season has aired so far, viewers have already noticed that the two main characters, Edwina and Andy, are missing. In Season 1 of the show, Edwina Yen appeared in many scenes because she was seen as Karl Alberg’s successor.

On the other hand, although Andy Kendrick received less development than Edwina, his character was still important because he had the potential to change from an unruly cop to a promising young officer.

According to Screen Rant, Mya Lowe will not be a cast member in Murder in a Small Town Season 2 because she had a scheduling conflict and decided to film Season 2 of My Life with the Walter Boys instead of the crime drama. However, there is no official news about Fritzy Klevans-Destine leaving the show, so his absence remains a mystery.

While it is possible he might appear in more episodes of Season 2, it seems odd that the series would leave out such an important character from Season 1 in the premiere episode of Season 2. On the other hand, Variety had earlier reported that the show was expanding its cast for the new season.

In July 2025, Variety reported that Murder in a Small Town Season 2 will add Bethany Brown, Marci T. House, and Joshua Close as new cast members in the latest season of the show. The premiere episode of Season 2 introduces Bethany Brown as the new department corporal Laila Jackson and does not provide any explanation for Yen and Kendrick.

On the other hand, network TV veteran Marcia Gay Harden also joins the cast of the show in Season 2, playing the role of Gibsons Mayor Christie Holman, who is ambitious and cunning. While all the new cast additions will expand the show's storyline, which previously focused mainly on Karl and Cassandra (Kristin Kruek), the unexplained disappearance of Yen and Kendrick still feels like a major hole in the plot.

According to Screen Rant, even though Marcia Gay Harden is a skilled actor, her addition won't mask the fact that the crime drama has suddenly removed its main characters from Season 1 without explanation and has introduced a new cast. Additionally, the inclusion of a character like Mayor Holman will feel incomplete until the show explains the disappearance of its old characters.
