The wait for 9-1-1: Nashville finally seems to near its end, as ABC recently unveiled a first look at the upcoming show, shot at the recently held CMA Fest in Nashville, Tennessee. 9-1-1: Nashville is the next spinoff show based in the Music City and is expected to release later this year in fall, and will air new episodes every Thursday on ABC, following the original show’s ninth season.
The first-look promo for the drama played out in front of a huge audience gathered at Nissan Stadium in the Music City and hinted that music, by itself, will characteristically be a chief component of the narrative.
Here’s everything that you need to know.
9-1-1: Nashville will feature music as an integral part of the show
As per the first-look promo released at the CMA Fest, the upcoming 9-1-1: Nashville is poised to be one of the biggest outings of the ABC franchise and teases to match, if not overwhelm, the scale and ambition of the recently concluded latest season, which came to an end with the shocking death of Bobby Nash. Since the show is set against the backdrop of the Music City, it is only natural that a few of the firefighter characters featured on the show would be aspiring musicians themselves. The show has also cast a few popular country singers and residents of Nashville in prominent roles.
As of this writing, it has been confirmed that 9-1-1: Nashville will be led by the character of fire captain Don Sharpe, played by Chris O’Donnell of NCIS: Los Angeles fame. Joining his team will be Grey’s Anatomy star Jessica Capshaw, portraying the character of Blythe Ward. Country singer LeAnn Rimes and actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley will also be seen on the ABC show, along with Michael Provost, Hailey Kilgore, Hunter McVey, and Juani Feliz.
It has been reported by Variety magazine that Hailey Kilgore will be playing the character of aspiring musician and firefighter Taylor. On the other hand, Provost will be seen as Ryan, who is a mix of a firefighter and a modern-day cowboy. It is interesting to note that LeAnn Rimes and Kimberly Williams-Paisley are residents of Nashville themselves and therefore can be expected to bring their street-level familiarity to the spinoff show.
Jessica Capshaw spoke about her character on 9-1-1: Nashville
Jessica Capshaw spoke with TVLine while attending the Disney Upfront in New York. Speaking about her character of Blythe Ward, Capshaw revealed that she loved the name of the character, as not many people were named Blythe, and also mentioned that her growing up horse riding came in handy when portraying Blythe, who is in the horse racing business. Capshaw further added:
"She’s everything you want to be, and you want to talk to your daughters about being. She’s this equal mix of strong and smart and strategic and ambitious. At the same time, she’s incredibly warm and holding everyone together and making sure that everyone’s feeling good. She’s the empath and the conductor at the same time. It’s going to be very fun to see how that plays out.”
With its focus on emergency services and Nashville’s music scene, 9-1-1: Nashville expands the franchise in a new direction.
9-1-1: Nashville will be exclusively available on ABC.
