Despite battling the disease, Will never wavered from his mission, having the cantaloupe-size tumor removed from his lung in 2017, and additionally in 2021 and 2023, and he endured chemotherapy.

A champion’s battle with cancer
Being a four-time Masters CrossFit Games champion, Will earned his reputation. Even after his initial lung tumor resection in 2017, which was reportedly larger than a cantaloupe, he kept competing. Will had been in a continuous battle with the cancer ever since.
After enduring arduous chemotherapy and further surgeries in 2021 and 2023, he persevered and participated in the 2024 CrossFit Open. His last days were spent at home, in harmony with his wife and children.
A mentor, friend, and TV presence
Tributes on Instagram and CrossFit portrayed a multifaceted individual who was a confidant, a growth advocate, and a motivator.
