Noah LaLonde, who plays Cole, opened up about this new chapter, admitting his character is torn between chasing a future beyond football and figuring out what Jackie really means to him.

His words explain both Cole's search for purpose and his fragile chemistry with Jackie.

Cole’s fight to find direction in My Life With The Walter Boys Season 2 when life pulls football away

For most of My Life With The Walter Boys, Cole's identity has been tied to football. He was the star quarterback, the guy who defined himself by wins, touchdowns, and the rush of the game. Season 2 rips that away from him, and Noah LaLonde was very open about how that loss shapes Cole's entire arc.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, LaLonde explained that once football was gone, Cole was left in a "very confüsed and very negative" headspace.

This season, we see Cole learning to rebuild piece by piece. He's hitting the books, going to summer school, sitting through tutoring sessions, and even prepping for the SATs.

In one surprising moment, he even asks Jackie for help with studying, which sparks a softer, lighter side of him. LaLonde pointed out that Cole is not just studying to pass exams-he's trying to "re-identify which direction he's going to go."

Interestingly, LaLonde also shared that Jackie plays a big role in this shift. He said,

"I even think that subconsciously, he's trying to become the type of person that is fit for Jackie Howard..."

But he made it clear that Cole doesn't see it as changing for her; instead, it's about the qualities in Jackie with all of her resilience and her focus, all that inspire him to find those same traits in himself.

At the same time, Cole's not completely at peace with his new reality. He undertakes a coaching assistant job, dropping him right back on the sidelines of a sport he still loves. In one game, when his team wins after a play he calls, everyone cheers, but Cole feels nothing. As LaLonde explained,

"It's the hardest thing, because it's like you can do everything but the thing you want to do."

That moment sums up Cole's season-caught between the life he thought he'd live and the reality he's trying to accept.

The push and pull of Cole and Jackie’s connection & chemistry in My Life With The Walter Boys

If football is one battle, Jackie is the other. Fans of My Life With The Walter Boys know their chemistry has always been electric, but Season 2 complicates everything.

Jackie wants space, Cole wants more, and Alex, who is Cole's brother, is still in the picture. Noah LaLonde described it best when he called their relationship "frustrating."

Early on, Jackie asks Cole to just be friends, a blow that chips away at him. LaLonde broke it down, saying;

"It's like, Jackie wants space and to be just friends, ouch. And then, you can coach, but you still can't play. Team wins, no glory for you, ouch. And then in the middle of the dance floor at the Fall formal, sorry, not going to be a slow dance for you, pal. Oh, also, Dylan is going to that [football] camp. Ouch."

Each disappointment piles up until Cole cracks, drinking and lashing out at the school dance.

Even with the ups and downs, Jackie still influences Cole deeply. LaLonde admitted that Cole admires her "discipline for the things she wants," even if it leaves him trailing behind her.

Their moments together are fleeting, where they're learning to drive, joking after games, and having brief sparks at dances, but each one keeps that flame alive. By the finale, Jackie finally admits she loves him, though her fear of what that might entail holds her back. The heartbreaking twist? Alex overhears her confession.

LaLonde didn't reveal what's next, but he did reflect on Cole's state of mind. He said,

"If you're Cole, the thing you want is Jackie..."

He also stressed that Cole must own up to past mistakes and learn to grow before any real future with her can exist. Their chemistry may be undeniable, but Season 2 of My Life With The Walter Boys makes it clear that Cole's biggest obstacle isn't Jackie, but it's himself.

Season 2 of My Life With The Walter Boys strips Cole of the two things he leans on most: football and certainty with Jackie. Noah LaLonde's take on his character shows just how much Cole is struggling to rebuild his identity while chasing a love that feels both real and out of reach.

Whether fans root for him or get frustrated by him, one thing's certain: Cole's journey is far from over.
